OK, before it was just CAVWP.EXE running at random times and sucking down all available memory.
And, I have the “run Cache Builder When Idle” set to OFF. >:(
NOW, the stupid thing has started to run while web surfing, and that REALLY sucks to have it take up ALL available memory. And mind you I am surfing 2 legitimate sites…TigerDirect and NewEgg. ??? >:(
Because of this, I am getting MUCH closer to ditching the AV component, and going with a different AV.
The firewall is good, but I am beginning to think the av JUST SUCKS. (pun intended).
PLEASE, does ANYONE have any good ideas how to limit CAVWP.EXE activity?
I know it is part of the scanning, but all I have is real-time enable (referred to as STATEFUL on the Comodo display).
As always make sure there are no leftovers of security programs you had installed in the past. A possible left over can cause all sort of “strange effects”. Please run clean up tools for all security programs you had in the past. A list can be found here at the Eset website: ESET Knowledgebase .
Does this help or does the problem persist? Do the AV and Tasks logs of CIS show any activity around the time it happens?
CyberDragon201, did you follow the directions of EricJH? If so, was it helpful?
Also, please answer his questions about the logs so we have an idea of where to look.
Thanks.
@EricJH:
There are NO leftovers on system. Have already used the uninstallers as well as manually editing the registry to remove any possible leftovers.
@Chiron:
Have checked after each time the stupid thing kicked off, and absolutely nothing in the logs.
As stated, I have the Run Cache Builder When Idle UNCHECKED, and the thing kicks off at weird moments.
Several times when playing a full screen game, and the most annoying while I was doing some intense searching for items on TigerDirect and NewEgg for a friend.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason which is what, well to be blunt, pisses me off.
Right at this moment, CAVWP.EXE is the ONLY item involved with CIS that I find positively annoying.
Truly sad yet interesting part is I recently installed just Comodo Firewall for a friend and the process CAVWP.EXE was STILL present! I thought that when you instal ONLY the firewall NO antivirus items were supposed to be present. And yes, I have seen multiple reports of this on the net so it is an issue with the install or something, but it appears to annoy the hell out of people.
My personal “pet theory” is that is why sometimes CPF and other AV don’t play nice is because of that processes presence. Minf you, just a theory. ;D
Hi CyberDragon2013,
I have not had my presumption confirmed by Staff, but I am presuming it is required for the ‘File Rating’ system.
That would be my assumption as well.
CyberDragon2013, can you please post a screenshots of the page which has the option to disable cloud lookup? Did you disable this?
@Chiron:
No cloud scanning is ENABLED.
See attached.

I believe that CAVWP.exe is likely used by that option.
