CAVS chokes on encrypted volume files.

I have a couple for TrueCrypt encrypted volumes on my laptop running CAVS. These “drives” appears as large files to CAVS and the on-access scanner locks up as soon as it tries to check these 10GB+ files. I know I can exclude these files from being checked, but the problem is when I install or update CAVS there are no exceptions active and the program locks up totally when the large encrypted volume files are hit by the on-access scanner. Is there a way to install CAVS so that the on-access scanner isn’t on initially? If so I will be able to create the exception rules before CAVS choke on my encrypted volume files
