CAV Wishlist Rev 1

Well if it’s as good as other Comodo products it will definateley be good. If not, I’m sure Comodo will be very quick with a new version - like they were with their firewall after the leaktest results.

Ewen,

I decided to do a little test using the eicar test virus. Using my current antivirus solution (avast) I tried downloading the file and the http web scanner detected it as soon as the download started.

I then turned off web scanner completeley, but, left the on access scanner active. I then tried to download the eicar test file and again it was detected imediateley by the on access scanner.

Therefore, I’ve proved you right - as I can now see that there now seems no point in having this and would just be bloating the program. Thanks again.

Mike

Hello Ewen,[url]Avast and Antivir- real time protection | Page 2 | Wilders Security Forums here is a link to a discussion on http web scanning.I guess that I want to see CAV to be a top notch product.
I have trialed nod32 and it is light on resources, so they have done something right.Nod also is one of the most highly rated avs out there and always does well in av tests.
To touch on what mike said about the eicar test file, sure the realtime scanner will detect this file, but I believe the http web scanner goes deeper than this.At least from what I read ,IMO. tim

Thanks for the link Tim. Its definitely food for thought. I’ll go away and digest this further.

“For example, at my home, I have a DSL router (firewalled), beyond which is a Wi-Fi router. I have a set of MAC addresses defined on the Wi-Fi router, covering mostly my family member’s laptop (no one else is allowed to connect). Yet, it has already happened that my brother-in-law actually connected his infected laptop to my Wi-Fi network - which started immediately sending out malicious packets. The firewall on the router was completely useless in this case, as the attacker was already INSIDE the LAN… My Network Shield became quite busy.”

Of course, if he hardened the wifi by adding wep or wpa he could have prevented this occuring.

Thanks again Tim

I added a rev 1 to the title as Melih did for the CPF wishlist, this way we don’t have to look over pages and pages of wishes, instead just make a new version of a whislist like rev 2, this way it is more organized and easier to work with, and this way it will be less confusing

This post possibly doesn’t fit here, but comodo could give thought to developing an antivirus for the linux and mac OS. tim

Of course it does Timcan this is an Antivirus wish list, I’m guessing this is not just dedicated to one antivirus program but whishes for an antivirus program!

Comodo Antivirus has been released! Download and check to see if your wishes came true!

For a future release I would like to see a P2P scanner for those who use P2P apps. The scanner would scan the files being downloaded for Viruses before the user executes it.

I would like a rootkit detector,a richer database with dialers, spyware, adware, riskware, keyloggers, sniffers anda a protection from identity theft…Is it a dream???

Hmm… is it a dream? Well it is!

And our job is to make your dream come true

We already have built the Anti Spyware engine with all these features and we will be adding some cool features into our CPF that will prevent some type of nasty spyware. So bear with us, your dreams will come true

PS: For identity theft you have Verification Engine (www.vengine.com).

cheers
Melih

An Icon in the system tray to show CAV is running. I know launchpad has an icon in the tray, but this does not show when CAV (or CPF) is running. Or is there a way of doing this allready?

It would be good if it was ICSA certified. This way more people may be tempted to try the product.

Thanks for the feature news. Its always good to hear about the future of a great product.

I have a question. Can running both Windows Defender Anti-Spyware and CAV/CPF Anti-Spyware at the same time create any problems?

Thanks,
Lee

Melih do you have any news concerning when the Antispyware product will be released? Also I am hoping that Comodo is not planning to integrate spyware detection in CAV because the app may become bloated like NAV 2006 IMO.

Few months is the timescale we have so far for the Anti Spyware product.

It will be a seperate product just like CPF and CAV are stand alone products.

cheers
Melih

Good to hear Melih,as some like layered security instead of all in one. tim

I would like to see a feature like the one of the program Abtrusion Protector Personal Edition 1.1 which can be downloaded from http://www.abtrusion.com/Downloads/appersonal.asp.

What Abrusion Protector does?Well I thought to add a description found on http://www.markusjansson.net/software.html:
“Abtrusion Protector is used to PREVENT malware or ANY other software that you have NOT personally installed on to the system, from running. Basicly speaking, boys and girls, if you have Abtrusion Protector running in your computer, you can doubleclick any files (yeah, even viruses, trojans, whatever you want to) or allow them to automatically executed somehow and try to run them (OK, this is NOT a wise thing to do in any situation but please listen). They will NOT run in your system and therefore can NOT infect your system in any way. Period. And when you need to update Windows, no problem, this baby knows Windows updates automatically, so you can go ahead and install (it uses strong crypto and Microsofts digital signatures to verify the files so that they ARE safe). When you want to install something else (that you are SURE is safe to be installed into your system!), just tell this program to go to “install mode” and when you are done, turn of the “install mode” and again no other software can be executed in your system. This baby is SOOOOOOOOO great!!! :D”

A feature like this would give aditional protection to users when they navigate at no secure
sites ;D

G’day,

It would be nice to know what is being updated when CAV updates itself. Most AV apps display info on the latest threats incorporated in an update. This could be fed into the news panel in Launch Pad or as an infobox in the main CAV window.

G’day,

Is online the only method available to update CAV?

Most AV apps provide a manual download as well as an automated update. This is necessary if the internet connection is compromised (or in an unknown state) or if the PC is behind a security layer that prevents the download.

This would necessitate changing the updating routines to cater for reading from a local file as well as from the internet, plus allowing the user to determine the update source (local file or internet) as part of preferences.

This could be facilitated by adding a download folder to the CAV structure and having the program check this folder automatically when doing an update is a net connection is not detected.
