CAV scan causes total system lockup

Ubuntu saucy salamander (13.10), 64 bit, with Mate desktop.
Installed cav-linux version 1.1.268025.1
Ran the post-setup script - no errors noted
No diagnostic errors.
Was able to scan home directory with scan archives turned off and it worked.
Tried to do a full scan several times. Each time it stopped at a different place but totally locked up the computer. I had to power cycle the machine to restore operation.
The syslog shows no indication of what might be wrong.

I like Comodo and would like to make it work for me but this problem renders the program useless.

Any suggestions as to what is wrong and how to fix it?
