Can't open main window

Hi,

I did a fresh install of CFW 6.3.302093.2976 on my Win7 64bit system. Before I rebooted the system I manually started cistray.exe and adjusted some settings (proactive mode, FW set to training etc.).After reboot a right click on the tray icon and clicking on Open… nothing happens, the main window doesn’t come up. Manually starting cistray.exe doesn’t help either I deinstalled CFW, then installed again, no vail…

Has anybody an idea what is wrong here?

Can you see if any of the following processes are running or not:
cis.exe
cavwp.exe
cmdagent.exe
Task manager needs to be set to show processes of all users.

As always make sure there are no leftovers of security programs you had installed in the past. A possible left over can cause all sort of “strange effects”. Please run clean up tools for all security programs you had in the past. A list can be found here at the Eset website: ESET Knowledgebase .

After Windows has been started the following programs are up and running:

CisTray.exe
cis.exe
cavwp.exe
cmdagent.exe

There should be no leftovers of security programs, but I did an upgrade to ESET NOD32 Antivirus 7.

P.S. I just noticed that a second instance of cis.exe is shown in Task Manager when I try to open the main window. Is this normal behaviour?

Yes, I believe one is for the desktop widget and one is the main window.

I disabled the widget. Don’t know if this influences the presence of cis.exe or not.

mumdigau,

Does the window come up when you press “Windows Key” & “r” and type in %programfiles%\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cis.exe and hit enter?

Please make sure that ESET was disabled at the time of installation, Also check ESET logs to make sure it didn’t have any interaction with CFW.

Also; Try to add ESET Program Files and Drivers to the D+ Exclusion list and Vice Versa (CFW added to ESET)

Also another try is to make sure that D+ is set to Safe Mode and Sandbox is set to partially limited until we can resolve this problem.

Thanks…Jake

Hi mumdigau,
In the link below, is a list of each process and their individual functions.
What are all different processes in CIS V6?

In rare cases the main window comes up when I start cis.exe manually, in most cases it doesn’t. I haven’t yet found out the logic behind this behaviour. Even if the main window is up, I can’t open Advanced Settings.

I added \COMODO*.* to ESET’s exclusion filter. Vice versa: Autosandbox/Sandbox are disabled (I use sandboxie). FW is set to Training Mode.

So far, nothing helped. I deinstalled CFW, reinstalled (ESET disabled), opened the main window via cistray.exe, and adjusted the settings. After restart same behaviour as above: main window doesn’t open. ESET log doesn’t show any entry concerning CFW.

BTW, under Windos XP Pro 32-bit CFW functions flawlessly.

Thanks, mumdigau

Mumdigau;

This is rather interesting occurrence; What settings are you configuring?

Thanks…Jake

I followed this guide on gizmo’s site

http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-install-comodo-firewall.htm

except switching off all Sandbox related stuff (I use sandboxie instead as told above).

I’m just thinking out of the box here so please bare with me;

Have you tried restarting after installation than configuring CIS?

Installing CIS > Restart > Training Mode > Restart > Than Configure CIS

Hmmm…

Jake

I gave up, and went back to version 5.10 which works flawlessly on Win7 64-bit. Hopefully, a newer version will let me return.
