Can't get COMODO firewall to work

Hi,

I am having problems getting COMODO Firewall (version 3.0.21.329) to work. I have Windows XP Pro service pack 2 (32 bit), and am running avast antivirus, microsoft defender, firefox browser and thunderbird email on a 26.4kbps dial-up connection. After installing the firewall (with defence+) thunderbird was able to download the headers for my emails, but would not download the actual messages. Firefox would navigate to a page and either download the header and then hang. or just hang. Free Download Manager would open a file and say that it was downloading, but just sit there doing nothing. The firewall settings were left as default, and every time I was asked for a permission it had been given. I tried changing various settings and manually adding programs to the safe list. Even turning off the firewall made no difference. I then uninstalled the firewall and everything went back to normal. I did a registry clean with C-Cleaner and then re-installed comodo and had the same problems again.

I have tried the help files and searching this forum, but so far have not found any solutions.

Any suggestions as to what is going wrong would be greatly appreciated.

Did you say dial up? As in actual dial up from back in the days or do you mean DSL? Have you tried making Firefox a web browser and Thunderbird an email client?

I’m pretty certain he meant dial-up at 26.4 kbps. Perhaps DSL isn’t available at his location, so let’s try to help, instead.

Yes I did say dial up. (Out where I live we have a choice of copper wire the thickness of a hair, or satellite broadband.
I can download about 6gb a month on the copper for less than $15. Satellite would cost up to about $400 a month to do the same amount. Kind of makes the decision about which way to go pretty easy!)

Try putting D+ in training mode.

I tried all the different modes in both firewall and defense+ on the first install.
