I have just upgraded my system to a z77 chipset rig. I reinstalled windows xp sp3 and did all of the updates. I installed comodo isp 5.9. There were some restarts durring the install process, and those went fine. I imported my saved configuration and updated the virus database, and now when I try to restart or shutdown from the start menu, nothing happens. If I use the restart button, windows will not come up again. I get to the XP screen and it just sits there forever.
I have played around with this some and it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the profile. Even if I install the app, let it do updates and try to restart, the restart/shutdown buttons don’t do anything and I can no longer get into windows if I do a hard shutdown. I have tried doing all the windows updates before installing CIS in case that is the problem. I don’t have any captures because I can’t get into windows after this happens. I have to restore from an OS image (with CIS installed) to get windows back. This is a brand new install with just windows, motherboard drivers, and CIS. I don’t know what would be in the logs after just an install.
I suspect that there is some service or windows feature that CIS needs, maybe at start up, that I don’t have installed or is disabled. Do you have a list of the windows services and features that CIS needs, especially at startup?
Also, is there an installer for CIS Pro v5.9? The installers I have don’t install the AV, so they may be for the free version. I am having to install the 30 day trial, add my license code, and update.
To recap. A clean install of CIS without importing a configuration is enough to cause this problem.
Is it possible to enter safe mode when this happens?

This image is this from an installation of your new motherboard or your old motherboard.

Does a clean install of CIS work? Uninstall it and boot to Safe Mode and then run the unofficial clean up tool. Then boot back to Windows.
Do the Windows logs bring any insight in this? They can be found under Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System.
I have managed to get this working by doing an install on a version of windows with all services installed, instead of the version I was using where some services were not installed. The services that were not installed are things that I normally would have disabled, so I’m not sure why CIS has worked in the past with services disabled but won’t install properly when the services are missing.
I am having some issues with D+ not recognizing my customizations. When I start my browser (seamonkey) I get a notification that the app is not recognized and has been sandboxed. Even though I click on “don’t isolate again” and have added seamonkey to trusted files, I still get the popup about it being an unrecognized file and it still gets sandboxed. I don’t really understand this kind of behavior. I have used seamonkey for quite a while in conjunction with CIS and didn’t see this happen. Once I added it to trusted files, it didn’t get blocked again.
I also have some firewall rules for my email where I have allowed a rule for a connection between the IP for this machine and a host name (mail.comcast.net, etc). I still sometime get popups to allow connections, even thought there is a rule created. I have a rule to let seamonkey connect to dns (8.26.56.26:53), but I am still getting a prompt to allow the connection.
