can not access windows update [resolved]

When i try to get windows updates i get a error message (Error number: 0x80072EFD) and it seems comodo application monitor is blocking it :- Description - Application denied (svhost65.55.192.126)

How do i stop this from happening?

MANY THANKS,
Soulman.
Ps, Please make the answer simple, as i am simple.

This is one of those annoying firewall problems where different rules conflict. If you have lets say added a rule to block wgatray.exe from using svchost.exe like I have.

When accessing the Update site, you receive the 0x80072EE2 or 0x80072EFD error. (Resolution 1) Last updated : 10/21/2005 Print | Close

Problem description
This error may occur if your Internet connection or configuration is preventing access to the Update site.

Applicable operating systems and products
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows Server 2003

Resolutions

  1. A misconfigured Proxy/Firewall can cause this problem. Double-check the Proxy/Firewall settings.
Add the following urls to the exception list within your Firewall/Proxy:
    http://.update.microsoft.com
    https://
    .update.microsoft.com
    http://download.windowsupdate.com
For help configuring Proxy/Firewall refer to documentation or contact the manufacturer.

Goto Comodo>Security>Application Moniter
Make sure there are no rules blocking services.exe or svchost.exe.

There shoudn’t be any rules in Security>Network Moniter blocking TPC Out Port 80 or you wouldn’t have been able to make your post.

I’ve tried it and it seems to not matter if you delete any rules that would prevent it, the IDS/IPS type behavior of COMODO will kill it anyways, unless you tell it to allow it when the popup comes.

You could create a new application rule for svchost.exe telling it to allow outbound connections to any IP on port 80 - but that seems to be a bad idea.

EDIT: I forgot - if you use windows update it won’t work if you have iether scvhost.exe or services.exe blocked I think.

Thanks Shadam for your advice.

When i looked there were no rules?

same here, no rules.

So in the end i re-booted and hoped it would reset itself and ask me if i wanted to allow, which it did and now im good to go.

So all i can say is THANKS for your time on this one,

:■■■■ and good luck to you,
Soulman.
