BSOD when connecting with Cisco VPN Client

Hi,

on wXP with SP3, I get BSOD when applying password in Cisco VPN Client. I use the newest version of both.

How can I troubleshoot? The problem disappears after uninstalling CIS.

Are you using 3.13.blabla.581?

Does the event get logged under Defense + → Common Tasks → View Defense + Alerts? Can you post a screenshot of the alerts?

Yes, it’s 3.13.blabla.581. No the event isn’t logged there nor in Windows log.

Sounds like a bug to me. I will move the topic to the bug boards.

Maybe you want to try to remove the VPN Clients internal firewall component. It works on my system.

There were problems in the past with the v2 firewall with the Cisco VPN client. There are components of Zone Alarm Firewall used. I am wondering if they are causing problems or not.

Try the suggestion in this topic for v2 to see if that makes the BSOD go.

here’s what I did:

  1. Searched for vsdatant.sys and vsruledb.dll files. vsruledb.dll wasn’t found on my computer.
  2. Renamed vsdatant.sys. :wink:
  3. Rebooted the system.
  4. It worked as it should

Is it Cisco guys fault, is it related to “Stateful Firewall (Always On)” feature in the VPN client?

I see I made a mistake. I should have advised to rename the file instead of deleting. Is the file still in the recycle bin please restore and rename it.

Do keep in mind that the Cisco VPN program may reinstall the missing component. It is only a workaround, not a solution.
