Blue Screen of Death on first runs

I tried to install the comodo firewall on a windows XP SP2 computer on a DSL connection with the requisite amount of free disk space and just could not get a single run. As the computer booted up after the intitial install when the program was loading I got the blue screen of death while the program was in the process of asking if programs should be enabled to access the internet. After half an hour of this with persistent rebooting of the computer I gave up.

I run Avast for an antivirus and was not running anything else but the windows firewall.
