Block / Allow Advice needed

This morning I have had problems with both IE and MSN messenger. Having recently installed Comodo Firewall I checked to see if the problem lay there. In Application control rules I found that msnmgr .exe and iexplore.exe had both been blocked. I highlighted each and then right clicked and then clicked on the edit option and allowed all and okayed this.

When I had done this I noticed that Destination range had changed from any to 0.0.0.0.-255.255.255.255. and port had changed from Any to 0 -65535. Protocol was now TCP/UDP IN/OUT and permission =Allow. I then noticed that I had another iexplore but this said Any- Any- TCP/UDP out.

My Question is have I done the correct thing or should I change it back?.

                                                                                            Thanks for any help,

What you did was basically allow both IE and Messenger to communicate with anyone on any port. Which isn’t necessary a bad thing as you do want both to communicate with the Internet.
If you want to tighten the security a bit, you could narrow down the ports used for both applications. Consult the microsoft webpages for the exact ports used and experiment from there.

Or try to customize the applications in questions and post your results here for others to view and comment on

Good luck!
