Block a port

I have just joined this forum though I have been using Comodo Firewall for a while. I have just done a leak test on GRC Port Authority to see how transparent my PC is on the Internet. generally, I come up very stealth but today I show Port 135 as being open and vulnerable to attack. The particular test is “Shields up”. Can anyone suggest a way to close port 135?

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum Joe1

Are you using a router?

You may wish to Disable the ‘Messenger Service’ if you’re not using it. Though it may already be Disabled.

It’s nothing to do with ‘MSN Messenger’. If you don’t know whether you need it or not, then you don’t need it. :-TU

More info’…

If you’re using a Router, you should Block it there. If not, then you will need to Block it within the CIS Firewall.

At present I do not use a router although I am giving some thought to doing that. What bothers me is that I’ve tested my PC in the past using Shields Up on the GRC website and all my ports were blocked. I don’t know what might have changed that. Being a much older user, I do not use messenger but I will check it out anyway.

Thanks for the ideas.

Global Rules

Use Stealth Ports Wizard to set you computer as stealth. Go to Firewall → Common Tasks → Stealth Ports Wizzard → Block all incoming connections stealth my ports to everyone → Finish.

Can you show us your Global Rules?

Yeh’, the ‘Stealth Ports Wizard’! ;D
(This will automatically generate the ‘Global Rules’ for you.)

Its perfect for people who don’t use a Router too!

Just used the Stealth Ports Wizard and all is well in computerland once again. That is probably the only global rule that I have. Solved the problem so a hearty thank you for the help.
