/backupStepSize parameter

I wonder if someone, preferably one of the developers, can tell me what are the trade-offs in changing the value of the /backupStepSize parameter from from its default setting of 65536 through the various values up to the maximum of 1048576.

The optimum is 65536 for most HDDs, but, in some cases, using other values might result in better speed.
