Backup failed with error code 100161

Hello,

Trying to get started with Comodo backup, and having quite some difficulties. Here is the setup:

  • backing up a windows 7 64 bits machine
  • to synology nas

I setup 3 different backup jobs, to various targets directories, scheduled at various times of the night. Just to clear that up, Comodo is run “as admininstrator”, and I have entered login/password to connect to the NAS in each backup job settings.
Backup is simple copy, no compression, no inclusion/exclusion filter.

So far, I have not been able to do a single backup (I also tried unscheduled backups). They all failed immediately with “Error code 100161”.

Does anyone knows what it means ? I could only find on this forum a very short list of error codes.

I also found the following issues :

  • email report seems to work when backup job is run normally, but fails when job is scheduled - ie: the screen says “Email report sent successfully”, but the email never arrives. When run from the CB user interface, the message is the same, but I do get the email message.
When run from the UI, the email message received contains : “Backup “\OMEGA\backup” failed with code 1001610161016101610”

  • log to file option found in Settings does not work. The log file is never created - even when CB is run as administrator
Note: putting the log file in \Program Files\ is not a very good ideas, because of access restrictions

  • “run as a service” option is nowhere to be found in the Run mode select list !!!

  • big issue : whenever an error occurs, even if running in silent mode, there is a dialog box showing up that says “Could not run scheduled backup”, and user has to click on it. All other backup jobs are blocked until user has clicked. Now can you tell me how you are supposed to run several backup jobs in the middle of the night if someone has to be there to click OK button on that dialog box ???

Thanks for any pointer.

Hi

Is User Account Control Enabled?
If so, the NAS drive might be inaccessible when running an application as administrator.
To avoid the problem, you can select “Network” as destination, and choose the computer where you want to save the backup.

Yes, this is a bug that will be fixed in the next release.

Thanks

Why would that be ? NAs is accessible from windows using the account used to run the backup

That's what I have always done. Backup target is //omega/backup where omega is the NAS name (NAS is backup target ofc)

Hi

Because the NAS drive is visible only from the user context, but not from administrator context.
Try, for example, to run Total Commander or a similar program as administrator and you will see that NAS drive isn’t visible if UAC is enabled.

Thanks

Hi

Well, I thought I had entered my user login/paswdd as credentials in each scheduled backup parameters.

Anyway, thanks for yr time : I have now installed Cobian, and it does not have any kind of issue with permissions or anything, so that’s a tad much easier!
