Backup completed with error

I just installed and setup Comodo backup and on running my frist backup I got the following error:

“Error - Backup…completed with error”

Every time I try to backup, it successfully compares about 5000 files, 1000 folders, and copies about 1000 files, but for some reason it always give me an error message. When I check the backup zip, it is in an unrecognizable format so I don’t know if it actually backed up my files.

I am running v. 1.0.4.337 on a machine running XP SP2.

Any thoughts?

Hi sixpoints

Welcome to the Comodo forums

Can you check your log at Program files (or wherever you keep it) → Comodo → backup → CmdBkpSvc.log and see what it is you have not backed up. It could be a locked Windows file or folder such as “System Volume Information”. If so Backup will not back it up and you will have to exclude it from your backup.

Let us know if this helps

John

I have the same problem: 0 files copied - Backup completed with error. Wath can i do now?

Hi Maxwell Telles

Welcome to the Comodo forum

Can you check your logs (see above post) and let us know what it says you missed in your backup.

John

Thanks for reply and your help. Sorry for my poor english!

Hi all.
I just installed version 1.0.4.337 on Windows SP2 also.

I get error writing to DVD, no matter what the size of backup is.
Here is a very small backup.
Also, my version does not show Option to split files either

I have checked log and see no other errors
Any idea?

Just got a response from Comodo Support.
They stated it is a media problem.

They were correct.

Although all DVDs have a Maxell brand,
the one that did not work was a Maxell DVD-R mfg by RITEK

the ones that work so far:
Maxell DVD-RW mfg by TDK
Maxell DVD-RW mfg by MCC

So change media when you get the WRITER ERROR code

If this is true, it makes Comodo the most media-sensitive software I’ve encountered. I consistently get this error when trying high-quality TDK DVD-R or +R. NONE of my other software has any problem with this media.

As it’s free, Comodo don’t offer any support. I can’t even get a list of approved media (which wouldn’t take them long to compile, I’d guess!)

I can’t complain 'cos I haven’t spent any money, but Comodo Backup is, effectively useless. If anybody has any suggestions for a free alternative, I’d be grateful to hear them.

I just tried Backup for the first time today and got the same error. Here’s the last part of the log file, after it finished listing the files to be backed up:

4/7/2009 at 12:58:37 PM | Copy to CDRW disc 29,320.32 MB
4/7/2009 at 1:13:27 PM | Error: WRITER ERROR [ILLEGAL REQUEST (LOGICAL BLOCK ADDRESS OUT OF RANGE)]
4/7/2009 at 1:13:29 PM | Compared 2509 files, 246 folders.
4/7/2009 at 1:13:29 PM | Copied 0 files.
4/7/2009 at 1:13:29 PM | Error - Backup "Music Library Backup" completed with error.

I have no reason to believe this is a problem with the media. I’m using Tayo Yuden DVD-Rs in a Hitachi/LG DVD Multi burner which I use all the time and it never burns coasters. I also don’t think it’s an issue of which files it “missed” in the backup as I was only backing up some folder in My Music, which contain no hidden or system files and I had just run CHKDSK on the drive to be safe (which gave no errors).

This backup software has a great interface, but if it can’t backup to DVD-R, then unfortunately, it’s useless to me. Does it not support spanning over multiple discs?
