Azureus as a firewall bypass mechanism?

I switched to Comodo, everything is fine until I switch on Vidalia/TOR and Azureus.

They worked for a while, then…

Even though I have specific ports set up for each program, after a while, the programs ask to use a ton of other ports and will stop up/downloading if those demands are not met.

When I installed Comodo, I noticed Azureus and TOR were, without my direction, working with Windows Explorer to try to get all sorts of normally non-communicative programs to talk to the web, like video games that weren’t running, benign peripherals, etc. When I limited program access to a secure level, like Azureus can only use one port for a direct connection with only X parent, everything stopped up/downloading.

So, is Azureus being used as a firewall bypass device, as in “let it run rampant or it won’t work”?

I have the same problem… (:SAD)
I think using P2P softwares is not safe… (:NRD)

could we see some screenshots of your
rules and the alerts you get when this happens ?

Well that’s certainly a fact P2P software isn’t by any means safe. Although de-centralised p2p torrents aren’t quite as risky, since the data is scattered widely.Simple P2P networks are host to a vast amount of malware and should only be used under strictly controlled conditions.

hi all.
i’m new here but i’ve been having the same NAT problem with Azureus since I installed CFP i.e.
after a short wait while Azureus settles down, CFP kicks in and the little red dot on Azureus says it is firewalled.I’ve repeatedly created rules within CFP>Application monitor- to allow all activities with Azureus and it still kicks in the firewall after maybe a 3 minute wait. Finally Ive realised that if I right click CFP in the system tray, and select Custom (which is selected already!), miraculously the red “Firewalled” dot in Azureus disappears to be replaced by the heavenly green “NAT OK” dot. It would seem CFP needs reminding every time i start Azureus to ignore this application as its trusted. Its taken me months to figure this out because im an idiot probably but there seems to be so many people with the same problem that I hope this could be of use. A simple bug in CFP that could probably be ironed out!!! :BNC

For more safe run p2p programs under windows xp.

Make a sortcut for the program you won to run.
Then click on sortcut, on tab sortcut, click on button advanced, and then check the run with different credentioals.

The moment you run the program from sortcut login using the guest account, or make a new guest acount. Also be sure that the gust acount can read and write on the upload download directory, and in the full program of p2p.

Then every time you run the p2p, is under gurst acount, that can not do many thinks on your computer, even if one try to pass using the p2p.

I run my p2p this way from the first time. (:NRD)

What amazes me is the number of people that download cracked versions of commercial AV and other security software from the torrent sites,it’s a disaster waiting to happen! :-\
