Avira Free and CIS 7

I finally decided to try the Free Avira Antivirus software with CIS 7. I had used it previously and was impressed with the accuracy.

What did not impress me, is that both Comodo and Avira work with each other but not in partnership with each other.
Comodo is a little unnerving when you see a bright area at the top of the CIS7 gui that says At Risk along with messages that the “Comodo” Antivirus Protection and "Comodo RealTime Protection are disabled.

I turned off both prior to installing Avira. I had hoped Comodo would have had an addition when not installing the Comodo antivirus where the user could select from a list of the most popular antivirus software or input the name of their antivirus.
Comodo could use the “Windows Action Center” to monitor the antivirus being on and that the Antivirus Protection is enabled.

I wanted to have the Comodo antivirus as a backup and I can. When doing CIS7updates the antivirus update and I can right click and choose scan with Comodo antivirus.

With the X in the Comodo box (hidden icons) I need to manually check to ensure the Firewall is still on Have not seen it yet but in the past if Avira was off the umbrella was closed.

When checking Avira under firewall it shows the (Windows Firewall is on) again Avira should use the Windows Action Center for the correct name of the Firewall that is on.

Is there a setting I missed in changing antivirus programs ??

Also there is a setting I missed that I could place the Comodo and Avira icons in the Deskbar at the bottom so I can easily check that Avira is on and Comodo (if X is for another antivirus what does it show if the firewall is disable) now I need to manually check to ensure the firewall is on !

Thanks again,
UncleDoug

You need to remove the CAV component of CIS rather than just disabling it. Select CIS in “Programs and Features”, click on “Change” and deselect the antivirus component.

To display any normally hidden icons in the Windows taskbar click on “Show hidden icons”, then “Customize…”, and select the appropriate behavior for each icon you want to be able to see.

I hesitate doing this as I wanted to keep the Comodo AV as a backup and be able to right click and scan with it.
But will this correct the problem I now have with the X in the icon and the Risk at the top of the CIS7 gui ?

Thank You that does take care of that annoyance.

I fixed the quote structure. Eric

In my opinion you are better off using one or more of the many anti-malware products designed to scan a PC without remaining resident in memory. I regularly use Hitman Pro, MalwareBytes and TDSSKiller.

Yes, that’s why I suggested you should do it!

When you uninstall the AV you can always use Comodo Cleaning Essentials for a manual scan.
