Hello,
I am trying to install AVG 2011 anti-virus but during the installation process it all stops. This is because AVG says that I have Comodo Anti-virus but I don’t.
I only have the firewall. Looking on the AVG forum it seems that this is a problem which started back in November.
Is there a solution to this yet?
Windows XP Pro SP3, Pent 4
Firewall : Comodo version 5.3.176757.1236
Anti-Virus : Currently NONE was NOD32
Ant-spy : MalwareAntibytes, Superantispy, SpywareBlaster
This is not a bug of Comodo Internet security, so it should not be posted in this section.
Anyway, don’t install AVG, it has a horrible detection rate and high false positive rate. (You’ve run into one right now!) Instead you should install Avast.
From the AVG forum it seems that Comodo puts a key in the registry for the Anti-virus even if it’s not installed.
I’m also asking there if this has been resolved yet. I will post here any replies.
I strong suggest and recommend that you through AVG to the dustbin; 2011 is not AVG year. Test have shown that avg gives your computer same protection as if you would have destroyed jack protecting you from a rain storm.
If you don’t take my word for it please feel free to youtube and see for yourself.
I only say this because I want you to have tons of angry moments!
Hi all, this reply is in no way out to make waves. I just want to say we are all entitled to our own opinions, but everyone remember the OP was just looking for a solution to a specific problem and I don’t think we should be to critical about his choice of AVs. I am not backing AVG, but if that is what English68 wants that is his choice. To English68 I hope Jays solution is a fix so you can continue to use CF with AVG. All the best and Kind regards to everyone.
If you’re sure you want to use AVG, then you are going to have to temporarily uninstall Comodo Firewall, install AVG then reinstall Comodo Firewall, which is really tedious and really not worth it in my opinion.
There is no need to uninstall Comodo’s Firewall.
That is an old issue with current installations of many security Packages irrespectively
The message can be just ignored.
… unless something new was introduced to the very recent installer that indeed “stops” the installation
That did not happen to me
In addition I am sure that’s pointed in one (if not several) of the threads of the AVG’s support forum

The solution to post How to bypass "AVG's compabilly check" is currently being discussed by us MODS. The debate is whether to post it here for the public to view is in question?
Also, If you do bypass AVG’s compablility check, then AVG probably won’t help you if they know your using another companys firewall. AVG’s solution is to buy AVG’s firewall and not use someone elses firewall. AVG’s goal is to eventually for the user to buy their full AVG product.
In the event AVG WON’T or CAN’T help you. YOU CAN still come on the comodo forums and people here will try and help you fix AVG’s quirks, bugs, or find workarounds(if it can be done)
In the comodo forum and UNLIKE some other places, weather you use comodo products or not. We (mods and users here) are more then happy to help and take the time needed to give a helping hand.
That’s is what this forums all about: helping, learning, hanging out, and among other things.
The message was and as the user posted is about the Antivirus
As I said I did install AVG Free on several computers with Comodo FWall (v3) ignoring the said message.

I guess it's still an issue, but you propably want to know where im getting it from (right)

then they tranfer it to another link witch is this
and a few more link, but here's the final link to that issue

!ot!IMO, they seem to be pretty damm strict with there rules. Just an observation
It seems (IMO) to be a very strict rule enforcement, but that’s just on how I view it. Were pretty damm

I believe with the new version, it won't let you ignore it?
For the record, I don’t use AVG, I’m was just installing it so I can see from THAT person’s point of view(Like see what he sees) so I can give a better answer
If you PM me we can talk bout “compatibility check issue” and the solution for it too.

Consider yourself lucky I guess

I'm curious as to what this person have done in the mean time
Well as I said that is a matter of new installers &/or new stuff introduced by Comodo
But again, we are talking about “Antivirus issue” rather than Firewall if that’s the only one installed
Thanks, I do know those and other threads
Therefore, instead of bashing AVG for no apparent reason and accusing them of promoting their Firewall this way,
please advice the user to use Comodo FW v3 , since that’s what the users wants to use - Comodo FW only
Neither previous bugs were fixed nor many Wish List entries were introduced except the only lil premature “enhancement” (that will most likely undergo changes) implemented recently and currently can be ignored.
Anyways, as we can see the issue is under investigation by AVG
As for
If you PM me we can talk bout “compatibility check issue” and the solution for it too
You know well that I was never interested in Comodo’s Suite and especially since v4
Consider yourself lucky I guess
Wrong guess ... Luck is a good thing , but I rather know well what I am doing
You know well that I was never interested in Comodo's Suite and especially since v4
I couldn't agree more :) I see your signiture to back up that claim. We all know the solution is to install avg first and then the comodo firewall. With my method (which is in question) Solves that problem. You don't have to uninstall comodo firewall just to install AVG free and then reinstall comodo firewall
herefore, instead of bashing AVG for no apparent reason and accusing them of promoting their Firewall this way,
Nobodys bashing anything(every product is good in there own way in one form or another), It was to get around "AVG's compatibilities screen" to save people some trouble
that's all
Whether that is just “AVG’s compatibilities screen” or another ■■■■ introduced by Comodo is a matter to investigate
So, please re-read your post full of AVG -WON’T helps & CAN’T helps" and tell how in hell that can “save people some trouble” except introducing misleading info and therefore highly undesirable uncertainty
Whether that is just "AVG's compatibilities screen" or another ■■■■ introduced by Comodo is a matter to investigate
I tried it out on my computer too! AVG won't continue installing it. It CAN'T be ignored(like it won't let you continue on, I've tried)
tell how in hell that can "save people some trouble" except introducing misleading info
Apparently it would be inappropriate to make it public because people outside of comodo can have different views of it and be easily misinterpreted . And yes it would save people trouble by bypassing AVG's comparability checks. That way they don't have to uninstall the firewall, just to install the AVG free anti-virus, then reinstall the firewall The mods have verified it and it does works

surely you would agree that this SHOULDN'T be necessary.
It has been investigated as Jay said. His method was just a means of bypassing AVG’s compatibility check, but the mods, as a whole, do not feel it is appropriate to publish this info here. I have suggested that it should be posted on the AVG forums as it would best serve the interests of those looking to install AVG Free AV over Comodo’s firewall.
Would you please explain what you mean by “another ■■■■ introduced by Comodo”? If, as you state, this is “another”, can you please describe what the preceeding “craps introduced by Comodo” were?
I’m going to write to someone at AVG as it may benefit them and try to help fix this issue. it may be a benefit to the users.

I went through comodo's changelogs for some of the older versions of comodo and I counldn't find anything you were refering to. ???
… something new … introduced to the very recent installer…
(meaning AVG)
I was not asking to publish anything that is not appropriate by Comodo’s developers point of view and even was not interested in PMing to Jay regarding the matter
I was able reinstall AVG having firewall v3
We are not investigating here what I do consider being “■■■■” - that is known and discussed in other old and recent cases and is out of scope here
I was just pointing that initial attitude towards AVG expressed by Jay was “not up to standards”
