Antivirus database updates are automatic. There is no way (that I’m aware of) to turn this off.

All you’ve turned off is the option to make sure the DB is up to date before running a scan, and updates to CIS itself. So no bug…

Why would you not want your AV DB kept up to date anyway?

[[at] HeffeD] Bandwidth :-), possibly but prefer having control. However this is a defect.

Referring to the option CIS → Antivirus → Update Virus Database
The Help file describes it as
To manually check for the latest virus Database and then download the updates

There’s a note on the same page for Automatic Updates
Comodo AntiVirus checks for latest virus database updates from Comodo website and downloads the updates automatically. You can configure Comodo Antivirus to download updates automatically in the Scanner Settings for Real Time Scanning (On-Access Scanning) and Scheduled Scanning. Refer Real Time Scanning Settings and Scheduled Scanning Settings.

If what you have specified is correct, nevertheless of what I do I will get an update per a schedule defined within the codebase, and AV DB updates are being ‘pushed’ onto me regardless of whether I am requesting it or not this seems in contravention to the description in the Help files.

Oddly CIS versions upto 3.5.57173.439 used to behave exactly as per what is mentioned, updating only when I request it via “Update Virus Database”, Hence build 3.8 has broken and introduced the bug.

Again, what you mention from the helpfile is referring to the ability to update the AV DB prior to a scan, not the automatic update itself.

This part is referring to the auto update:
Comodo AntiVirus checks for latest virus database updates from Comodo website and downloads the updates automatically.

Meaning, it will always do this.

Note how it points out you can specify an auto update in the Real Time and Scheduled Scanning Settings:
You can configure Comodo Antivirus to download updates automatically in the Scanner Settings for Real Time Scanning (On-Access Scanning) and Scheduled Scanning. Refer Real Time Scanning Settings and Scheduled Scanning Settings.

If it were in fact referring to a general auto update setting, why would the setting be in two different places? This refers to the fact that you can tell CIS to ensure the AV DB is up to date prior to running a scan.

You mention you want to save bandwidth. How big are the new updates? I’m on DSL and the new update format introduced with 3.8 download in literally seconds. I get the alert that the AV DB is being updated, and almost immediately after, I get the alert that the update is complete.

Thanks HeffeD, it then seems I have interpreted the the help and provided options incorrectly.

Its just that upto v 3.5 CIS used to behave as per what i described,

I know that since although my registry values for the update url (mentioned in other posts) were correct,
and the CIS status screen always used to mention that the defs were updated (again discussed on other posts).
The physical defs version (from Miscellaneous → about) was never updated.

The bandwidth, I was just referring it to one the possible reasons I may not want it updated. Incidentally it is fast and quick (as described in the CIS beta and post release posts )

Perhaps I should add this request to the wishlist.
