I do have the same issue, Application agent is not running, and I can see cmdagent in task manager, any idea on what can be done to overcome this troubleshooting?

Try running Diagnostics from under More. Does that fix it? What does it report?

Eric good afternoon,

Diagnostics are working fine.

Thanks.

Vincent

What security program(s) did you have running prior to CIS? Run a removal tool from its manufacturer to make sure all components are removed.

Are there one or more security programs running alongside CIS? Try temporarily disabling them and see what happens.

Eric, I really apologize to reply you so late… ;D

Before installing CIS, I was running for three years Kaspersky antivirus + COMODO Firewall for more than one year as far as I could remember, and this was running pretty fine, but since the latest Kaspersky antivirus 2011, things went bad, Kaspersky a bit too much intrusive.

No other security softwares are installed, and I have been running REVO uninstaller to clean Kaspersky, if I remember well.

My only troubleshoot at the moment is that I need to run Windows administrative tool services, and start manually COMODO Internet Security Helper Services, it just takes time to do it, but after this done, CIS works really well.

Wish it helps.

Best regards.

Vincent

Can you see if the COMODO Internet Security Helper Service is set to start automatically?

It is odd the autostart of the service is not working. In case the problem persists try the following tutorial.

We are gonna take a look to see if there are some old drivers of your previously uninstalled security programs are still around. First run "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1’ without the quotes from the command prompt. Then go to Device Manager → View → show hidden devices → now look under Non Plug and Play drivers → when you see a driver that belongs to your previous security programs click right → uninstall —> reboot your computer. You need to Google the driver’s names to see to what programs they belong to. You don’t want to uninstall Microsoft/Windows related drivers of course

When the problem persists make sure there are no auto starts from your previous security programs. Download Autoruns and run it.

This program finds about all auto starts in Windows. This tool can therefore seriously damage Windows when not handled properly. After starting push Escape and go to Options and choose to hide Windows and Microsoft entries, to include empty locations and then push F5 to refresh.

Now check all entries to see if there are references to your previous security program. When you find them untick them. After unticking reboot your computer and see what happens.

Hi Eric,

yes it is set to start automatically. I am following your tutorial, and shall revert as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Best regards.

Hi Eric,

as it was previously “vaccum cleaned” using REVO uninstaller, it might be those two ones as per pdf, which were not cleaned during Kaspersky software removal, but not 100% sure. I might go on a cross-check in the register base first.

Could you please check and revert.

Thanks.

Best regards

Eric OK,

there are still some uncleaned legacy files from former Kaspersky sofware in the registery base, but difficult to compare and say if those are as per pdf file on previous post.

Any idea ?

Thanks.

Best regards.

I see parport and serial drivers being missing. Those are drivers for parrallel and serial port; old ports not used anymore these days.

Just browsing through and Googling things that “stick out” I found that ASFWHide may be a left over of Ashampoo Firewall. Did you ever install this firewall? If so make a system restore point and remove the driver by right clicking on it and choosing to uninstall it. Reboot when asked and see report back.

Yes you are right Eric,

Kerio 2.1.5 was first as a firewall on this computer, then the sunbelt 4.XX for a couple of years, then ASHAMPOO for a couple of days.

Doing the complete process from the tutorial you gave, including running Autoruns, and I shall report tomorrow, a bit time to go to bed in Europe…

Cheers.

Vincent

Eric,

here it is as per attached zipped file.

Enjoy.

Cheers.

Did you uninstall the Ashampoo firewall driver? Please do and report back. That is a serious candidate for being the cause of your problem.

How do I open the file in the zip archive? It has the .arn extension for which I know no program to open it.

Hi Eric,

yes I have been uninstalling Ashampoo driver last night, the way you have been telling, but still I need to run services to start CIS.

I have been googling a bit to see what kind of program to use for an *.arn file to be readen, but unfortunatelly no way, the best might be to run the console and paste in a *.txt file…

Doing this right now and uploading.

Wish it helps.

Cheers.

Vincent

Eric,

the easyway for the *.arn file would be to open the file in Autoruns, go to File, then Open the unzipped file I have been sending yesterday. If there is a problem, tell me I shall try to prepare a log file and upload.

Tell me.

Cheers.

Importing the .arn file into Autoruns worked. I could check out the auto starts on your system. That’s a slick feature of Autoruns that I didn’t know. Learned something new today.

I didn’t see left overs from other security programs.

I read your topic start again. I think I misunderstood your problem. I thought cmdagent.exe was not running but it is cfp.exe that is not running. Can you confirm you don’t see cfp.exe running in task manager? Notice that with XP the icons of programs may not always show in the systray area.

When cfp.exe is not running in task manager. Will it start when clicking on the shortcut on the desktop?

Eric,

I have been restarting the system, and effectively when you open the task manager, cfp.exe is not running.
Unfortunately, same results with the shortcut.

Cheers.
