If there is anyone using POPfile with Gmail and OE I would be interested in knowing your settings. I have tried everything I can find searching with Google to get it to work and have had no success. I have Gmail downloading with POP3 to OE successfully but not going through POPfile.

No, John, not with OE.
I do run gmail POP through Thunderbird and have had no trouble setting it up with the instructions from Gmail.
There is a guy close by who does use gmail with OE and as soon as I can I’ll ask him if he had to deviate from the gmail instruction page to get it working. Soon as I hear, I’ll let you know.
One item I did notice that wasn’t covered clearly (and I think would be the same in both T-bird and OE) is the smtp server settings. It needs to be set to “TLS, if available”. You’ll still be on port 25 outbound, but it will then match the security level of the “SSL - port 995” inbound.
Without that set … no mail sent.
I’ll let you know what I find …

Why not run Gmail online?
I can’t speak for John, but I find gmail online takes more keystrokes and time than using a third party client (Thunderbird in my case)
FI: in gmail, one must open the trash bin and mark each entry then delete it again … for all the folders.
In T-bird, empty trash and compact folders is two clicks.
So, for me, it’s a matter of convenience … strictly choice.
