I’ve been using Firefox for years (since the very first versions), and like a OCD candidate, I make sure to download all newly released versions. But regardless of the latest Firefox downloads, they seem to be running slower and slower on my Windows 7 (64 bit) machine - and I have 16 Gigs of RAM.
So enter Ice Dragon - which I discovered some 8 months ago (glad I did). What a wonderful improvement. Without exaggeration, I can say that Ice Dragon works some 50-100% faster in load times (and in general) than any Firefox version that I had. So Ice Dragon is my default browser and other than just updating my Firefox versions, I no longer use Firefox.
But the problem that I’m experiencing with Ice Dragon - is a periodic inconsistency in rendering Firefox Plugins. For example, I have Real Player installed on my PC and I love this media player because it places a real player download plugin-in within browsers such as Firefox, IE, and Chrome. This is a wonderful, exceptionally convenient download plugin which allows fast and quick access video download options.
But my problem is that it only works periodically with Ice Dragon. There are days where the plug-in (although clearing showing in the Add-ins folder) - will not appear when you are viewing a page (i.e You Tube), thereby not allowing you to download it using Real Player. Then there are other days (or specific times during the day) when the plug-in shows itself on videos and works just fine.
In addition, I would love to find a higher speed download plug-in that would work with Ice Dragon. Does anyone know of a 3rd party high speed download manager that would place a plugin in Ice Dragon? The reason I ask is that all of the regular ones (i.e. Download Accelerator Plus) only recognize the main browsers such as IE, Firefox, and Chrome - and not 3rd party derivatives of Firefox.
Please check if videos are loaded with Adobe Flash Player or HTML 5? The Real Player downloader is not displayed for videos loaded with HTML 5. To do this you have to right click the video and check the last line in the context menu.

The only thing is you may have to manually update the plugin once installed.
Just checked no Ice Dragon Support . I thought it could monitor all Mozilla based browsers, but it does have a drag and drop feature and clipboard monitoring that should still work from Ice Dragon.
If you are handy with a file manager and can copy subdirectories to new locations, the extension can be copied from the FDM program files to the extensions subdirectory of your CID profile. Rename it to
(Edit: That “[at]” above should be the symbol above the 2. This forum software changed it because it looks like an email address. Even in isolation the symbol is not permitted in this forum.)
If nor, do this:
Install Firefox. Go to FDM and have it monitor Firefox. Install the extension FEBE into Firefox. Use FEBE to backup all extensions you would like to use with CID. FEBE will create an xpi file for each extension.
Close FF and open CID. Go into the addon manager and select install extensions from files. Use the xpi files that FEBE created for you.
