Always sandbox folder

Hello,

I tried looking for something today but I couldn’t find it, in CIS I know I can add programs which are always sandboxed, but I couldn’t find a way to add folders which has it’s content always sandboxed. For example I want to add the “Downloads” folder to always have it’s content sandboxed, but I just don’t know how. The same way I want to have the directory where uTorrent downloads to always be sandboxed, but I don’t want the program itself to be sandboxed.

Thank you,

I think this would be a helpful option to have.

:-TU
also would like to see this as an option.

+1. helpful option

Not perfect but a partial solution here is to run Utorrent virtual, that way whatever folder you download to - I have created a Utorrent folder on the desktop- will also be virtual, here files can be safely checked/scanned/run.

Lets say I create a folder at E:\ and lets say I called it Downloads, so E:\Downloads, If I then run uTorrent sandboxed and specify that folder, would the items be downloaded to that folder or would they be downloaded to the C:\VTRoot ?

I’m using an SSD as my system partition hence I don’t want it to download to my system partition.

Ah ok I see your point here
The download location is whatever folder you specify but as you say its still in C:\VTRoot
However I do think this is a working “patch” for users who aren’t running with a separate drive as a system partition as you are…

hi

I’m looking to do the opposite:

By accident my torrent client ran in sandbox mode for a while. All files downloaded therefore probably got sandboxed too. Result: can’t see the files when browsing trought explorer. All files only appear when I run the client also in sandboxed mode and open the files from bittorrent itself (how do I open a folder in sandbox mode?). Anyway, I want to unsandbox the folder and all files inside. I looked for a solution, all I could find was to add this download folder to shared spaces. I did that, rebooted, and still the same issue… . Can’t believe this is not mentioned in the manual… .

cheers

In order to get to the files that are already in the sandbox you must either
a) Enable showing hidden files in Windows, you can do so by following the guide here. Then you need to go to "C:\VTRoot" and then from there you can search for the folder containing the files you are looking for.
or
b) Press WinKey+R (run) and type in “C:\VTRoot” without the “” and then from there you can search for the folder containing the files you are looking for.

If you sandbox an application and it tries to save files in a location that is not excluded, lets say "C:\Test" then those will be saved somewhere in the "C:\VTRoot" direction, technically this is a different folder and unsandboxed applications (like explorer.exe which you use to view files in Windows) won’t be able to see the files you saved to "C:\Test" because they are actually located in the "C:\VTRoot" direction, but the application doesn’t know that. The sandboxed application doesn’t know that the files are in "C:\VTRoot" either, it believes the files are in "C:\Test" because it can see them there, but that is the sandbox making the sandboxed program believe the files located in the "C:\VTRoot" are located in "C:\Test"

I hope you could understand the above.

hi

Thanks a lot! I found the files in VTROOT. Now, when I move them from here to some unsandboxed folder, things are fixed? I guess sandboxing a torrent client is not recommended, as you don’t want your files to be in a sandbox, right? I can’t believe it’s so much trouble to get your files once sandboxed. I just disables all sandboxing features.

Actually, I found some other stuff inside VTRoot. In fact, I want to get rid of this sandbox thing altogether. Can I delete the sandbox, and make comodo apply all changes inside vtroot, virtual registry etc. to my real system instead of virtual system? Like re-run all changes while deleting the sandbox?

Should be.

Depends on what you want to do, if you want to easily be able to access the files then no you wouldn’t want to sandbox the torrent client unless you’re using a shared space.

This is what the Shared Space is supposed to combat, when using sandboxed programs that needs saving files that you want to access then those files should be saved to the shared space or another folder which is excluded.

Disabling sandboxing altogether might leave you unprotected, it’s a core feature in CIS, if you decide you want to disable the sandboxing altogether then I’d recommend turning on the HIPS.

No, that’s not possible, you’d have to make all the changes manually I’m afraid. Like I said before, the auto-sandbox is a core component of CIS, disabling it will put you at risk, if you decide to do this then I recommend enabling the HIPS.

Thanks man!
