administrative shares

Hi Tune up utilities informs me that I should disable administrative shares. Why is this and should I? Could I set CFP 2.4 to protect these if so how? Thanks

The administrative shares X$ (where X is the drive letter), admin$, ipc$ and print$ repectively allow an administrator to gain network control of the x partition, the system partition, rhe network process and the printers.

Of course, this control can only exist if one can find a connecting port.

Nevertheless, all of the security websites recommend to disable these administrative shares.

For XP, this is done via the registry at:
Create a new DWORD entry, call it AutoShareWks, and give it the value 0.
