Achieving Stealth in Gibson Shields UP scan [resolved]

???
I have been using Comodo Firewall Pro for some time, mainly because when I changed my computer I couldn’t get the Free version of Sygate that I had used before.
CFP seems to be protecting my computer but being quite unknowledgeable about firewalls I to some extent relied on the Gibson Shields Up Port scan and Sygate always gave 100% Stealth report which reassured me.
I hadn’t bothered to do the test with CFP until recently and was disturbed to find that only 1 tested port achieved Stealth, all the others had Closed except 2 were open.
What am I doing wrong and can I configure CFP to achieve 100% Stealth?
I didn’t have to do anything with Sygate as it worked on installation.
Hoping that you may point me in the right direction.
Regards
Mike
CFP version 2.4.18.184
Windows XP SP2

Hi Mike. If you have a router then Shields Up is scanning it rather than your PC. By default CFP should keep all your ports “stealthed” if there’s no program opening them.

Hi Soya
Thanks for your prompt reply.
Yes I do have a router, sorry if I appear slow but does that matter and can I configure the router.

Mike

A router is a hardware firewall. If you have it then it’s another added security layer for inbound protection. I don’t have one myself, so I can’t walk you through it, but they are configurable. If you have it then CFP’s main use is outbound protection (i.e. passing all the famous leak tests).

Thanks Soya
I will research my router manual.

Mike
