I often get a pop up error window about svchost.exe application error which disables my sound device and firewall (when my windows firewall was still enabled). I need to restart to normalize things. Its too annoying. How can i remedy this? Thank you.

One thing, your post implies you have both CFP and Windows firewall running simultaneously? If so, this is likely to cause problems. Please disable windows firewall.
