Hello once again,
After 2 years without using the AV (but I kept the firewall).
With the V4 I made a new try but as previously got the same problem : see image attached.
The number of IO is tremendous and wihile updating, it’s almost impossible to use the PC.
Fortunately I have a 8 MO DSL and it doen’t take too long.
Any idea or I change the PC ?
Best regards
Gillou

The updating has always been using resources very generously. Things have bettered over time but still it is a bit of a greedy user of resources. A couple of months ago I switched from an old AMD Athlon based (single core) motherboard to an AMD Phenom (quad core) based motherboard so it is not something I notice anymore these days.
What hardware are you using? What CPU, how much RAM (what family), in what transfer mode is your HD running?
Hello Eric,
Thank you for your answer.
You will find attached the system information required.
It an old ultra portable, 5 years old, centrino.
Not really uptodate but to do office work and internet access quite good.
1,2 kg with the battery, a sort of notebook born before the word was used !!
This one traveled around the world.

Eric,
After doing a complete virus check I was having 3 real ones on the PC.
I will tell you tomorrow if it’s a persistant problem.

Keep us posted.
In the meanwhile can you look up the transfer mode of your HD in Device Manager? See the attached image to see where to look. How much RAM does your system have?
In case you find CIS too heavy with updating its AV you can consider Antivir from Avira which is a light scanner with good detection rate.

Hi Eric,
I think after removing the trojans things are getting better.
Anyway I copy the hardware tab for you, I hope it’s the one you were looking for, it’s the only one with advances settings
You will also find attached an image of procexp that shows fewer IO

Glad to hear things have improved for you after the removal of malware…
You have a fast modern hard drive; so that is not degrading your computer’s performance.
In general there are two other parameters that are of influence on Windows (and therfore also CIS update) performance: the amount of RAM and the size of the pagefile.
Adding RAM to an older computer like yours is on the expensive side of things. Only add RAM when you get it for free.
By default Windows will handle pagefile size automatically. I have noticed performance gains by changing by setting pagefile size manually to 3-4 times the size of RAM memory.
Playing with pagefile will bring bring some relief but when it is not enough I suggest to try a lighter AV like Antivir from Avira.
Thank you for you advice.
I get rid of Avast and now of Comodo so I will try Avira.
Best regards
