7-zip not needed for Windows XP and Vista

Windows XP and Vista are capable of creating password-protected ZIP archives – no other software is needed – see “Compressed (zipped) Folders overview” in Help and Support Center. Suggest you also document this method as a sticky.

What does that mean in the false positive forum?

7-zip can do much more than windows btw.

What it means is that there’s a sticky Topic in this Forum “Using 7-Zip to Zip files and sending them to the AV labs” https://forums.comodo.com/false_positivenegative_reporting_is_this_a_malware_that_cis_hasnot_detected/using_7zip_to_zip_files_and_sending_them_to_the_av_labs-t31208.0.html (which says “predominantly for the Microsoft Windows operating system”), and I can’t respond there, so I had to start a new Topic.

John,

7-Zip is more comprehensive then the one built into the OS, Hence it’s small & lightweight and won’t cause any issues. The sticky is relevant anyway, it’s why I made it.

Josh

Jeff,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Unfortunately, assuming you’re trying to address more than just we techies, I strongly disagree with that logic and assessment of 7-zip. Most average people I know would have much more problem downloading, installing and using 7-zip than just using the standard facility in Windows XP and Vista – it’s simply beyond them, and dangerous for them to even try. (Frankly I’m not a fan of 7-zip myself.) Regardless, I think you should at least also be telling people how to do it in Windows XP and Vista without 7-zip, and I’m a bit shocked that you don’t even think that’s worth doing.

John.

The sticky has been up ever since September, I have only just re-did it and so far, all is well. If I had dozens of people complaining about it, then I would most certainly take into consideration and change it. But so far, I seen no problems what so ever.

Hope this clarfies and you understand.

Cheers,
Josh

Hi guys,

Not to stir the pot or anything (I use Ultimate Zip myself).

I do see the point JNavas is getting at.

So in all good spirits I am making a post to do it the naked (:SHY) Windows XP way.

Later

Since I have already clarified things, I am going to close this thread now. If anyone has any other issues relating to that sticky, Pls don’t hesitate to PM me.

EDIT: Okay guys. I just deleted my 7-Zip Sticky. Bad Frogger created a new one for the built in Windows one, Thanks for this Bad Frogger & John.

Cheers,
Josh
