4.7gigs cant fit on my 8 gig flash drive

Well the subject says it all i cant figure out why i cant fit it on the flash drive. Its a 4.7 gig iso file and when i try to copy it onto the flash drive a it says that its too large to fit on it. Is this a common error cause the flash drive is new and it seems to only happen with iso files cause i have loaded more than 6 gigs on it before. Anyone have a solution to this problem? Any form of information or help would be appreciated thanks.

Flash drives are formatted in FAT32 format so you can’t put any file bigger than 4 GB. Your best option is to cut it into pieces with WinRAR or 7Zip.

well the problem is that i cant cut it up into pieces cause i need it to stay in whole iso format on the flash drive. Is there no solution to this problem?

You can cut it into pieces. Put it into a flash drive. Then you can glue it back together later, when you copy it into a hard drive. Or you can format your Flash drive to NTFS. But that can suck. ;D

Any idea how i format to NTFS? Cause i cant cut it up thats not a good idea lol

On Windows - Right click Flah Drive, choose format, select NTFS.

Backup your Flash data before you do that, cos it will be gone if you format the drive.

ok thanks alot its formatting now.

NP.

BTW - take a look here http://www.testfreaks.com/blog/information/usb-flash-drive-comparison-part-2-fat32-vs-ntfs-vs-exfat/

That’s why NTFS on Flash drives kinda sucks.

Hi Eddoes,

In addition to what Saxuality pointed in the last reply.

It is indeed not recommended to reformat flash drives to NTFS.

  • you are loosing compatibility with other systems;
  • it will be slower (reading always faster for Fat32 irrespectively whether its Flash or hard drive) … there are other reasons - the way NTFS accessed by the system, etc;
  • you will definitely reduce lifespan of the flash drive

Sure ISO image may not be necessarily a movie,
but if that is a movie image why wouldn’t you just rip it and make 700-800MB of the satisfactory and even excellent quality?

Cheers!

I can bet it’s a game. A pirated game ISO >:-D

That’s easy to do that.
Actually, you can’t put a single file which is over 4GB in the USB memory.
You can’t do it even if you use NTFS format.
So many people think it’s impossible. :-TD

But it’s possible and easy to do that. :-TU
You can take care of it with CD-ROM partition.

You must make a CD-ROM partition in your USB memory with a tool.
There are many tools to do that.

You must follow this rule.
1.make a CD-ROM partition in your USB memory.
2.now, you can put an ISO file more than 4GB.
(put the ISO to the CD-ROM partition that you made)

Some of tools may not suitable with you USB memory.
So you need to try with some tools that can be suitable.

I recommend you following tools.
1.UCDExec.
2.LPInstaller.

If it doesn’t work with your USB memory, use other tools.

For your guidance.
I use CD-ROM partition to boot from USB memory which has multiple OS ISO images, each of the ISO images is
over 4GB. (in this case, your MB must support USB booting)
So, you can use portable OS, install OS , automatic ghost booting etc with ISO images.
No more DVD.

Yes … that is not a pirated movie … but the game ;D

Anyway as it was pointed - it is possible but highly not recommended to reformat flash drive into NTFS

Cheers!

*** added *** actually there is another additional point not to reformat:

If your flash drive is BoostReady compatible - having it as NTFS will decrease its performance in this respect. Personally tested.

I don’t think so.
Because there are many people use NTFS with USB memories including CD-ROM partition.
In my case, I have no problem with over 10 kinds of USB sticks that are formatted with NTFS.
(including sandisk cruzer series)
Some USB memories show us slow reading and writing with NTFS compared with FAT32.
But some of them are not.
In Saxuality’s case,
he can use CD-ROM partition(for ISO)+NTFS partition(for normal files)
or
CD-ROM partition(for ISO)+FAT32(for normal files).
It’s up to him.
Because he has free space after making CD-ROM partition.
CD-ROM partition(for ISO)+FAT32 partition(for normal files) this one is better for him.

Not BoostReady…

It’s Readyboost.
It only gives an advantage people who have a low performance PC.
Some of USB memories show us low performance with NTFS.
1.unstable reading speed.
2.unstable writing speed.

But when we need to put over 4GB as a single file we still need to use NTFS sometimes.

Yes, “Readyboost” … you can find both terms as a matter of fact (…very “valuable” comment… thanks)

The main point was for the original poster to have a look at the possibility of using the flash drive as “Readyboost” and decrease the the performance if NTFS … and other disadvantages of using NTFS with Flash drive that were posted by few users here

Sure, NTFS makes the performance decreased when we use Readyboost, copy files, write files.
But we must use NTFS when we carry single 4GB files such as ISO, AVI, MKV etc.
In my case, I use NTFS for my LCD TV too.
About my TV(4 HDMI sockets, 1 USB, 1 Dsub)
1.USB HD DivX play.
2.Movie codecs - MPEG1/2/4, DivX, XviD, AVC
surport file extension - MPG, MPEG, DAT, VOB, MP4, MKV, AVI, DivX, TS, TRP, TP
4.support types - HD DivX, MP3, JPEG.

It means it can play the movies without any players, cables because it has own codecs including DivX in the TV.
I can just simply connect USB memory to the TV
Most in cases, I use ext HDD with USB or HDMI cable though.

ADD…
Who is the original poster?
I don’t understand what are you talking about.
My original poster is Eddoes.
This post started from Eddoes.
Am I wrong?

indeed … I was surprised that you admitted that

No, it is not “the must”, though

===============

Interestingly enough, recently I got Philips SoundMachine AZ1856/98

Perfect use of external Flash drives to playback & record in addition to other goodies

I have to try NTFS reformatting to be precise … since that was not even mentioned in any tech specs I know

Stating that I am sure it will become incompatible because of that - would be wrong & unfair … probably … but …hmmm… I will have to try that…

That’s bad habit being curious … adults have to be more wise compare to lil kids, who must(!) have to find what’s inside the toy - that is healthy actually & therefore all kids are more sophisticated at that age than any adult
At the same time … when puberty age have passed - that’s may be the sign of sickness (?)… I still will try that … ■■■■!

Anyway, Fat32 on flash still alive and had its advantages

Thanks

???
What are you talking about?
Read my replies again.
I already said
‘Some USB memories show us slow reading and writing with NTFS compared with FAT32.
But some of them are not.’

It means it depands on USB memories.
There are tons of USB from different companies.
Can’t you see it?

No, it is not "the must", though

Then, what kind of format do you use if you want to carry over 4 GB as a single file instead of NTFS, CD-ROM
partition? (do not talk about file dividing)

They never mentioned about NTFS with my TV spec on the manual. But it supports NTFS when I connect it.
We can recognize or guess with something else.
Because there are many huge files with MP4, MKV, TS, TRP, TP for HDTV, BR.
The size is over 10GB as a single file.
Finally, I’ve asked them about it. They said it supports NTFS officially.
This is the common sense for the normal HDTV and BR users who know about those file types.
In your case, your machine doesn’t support NTFS.(you may try it but I’m not sure)
Also it depands on USB memories if you have low perfomance with NTFS as I told you.
Some of them show us slow performance, but some of them are not.

ADD…
over 10GB.
Is that really huge file? No…not for me.
It’s not huge.
Because my internet speed is fast enough.
I can download 1GB file in 1 min~2min.
10GB file takes only under 10min.

lol

You are totally out of mind.

You know what?

If people point your false you only try to avoid and defend yourself with meaningless stuffs that are not related
with topic, because of so much embarrassed?

That’s not good.

Do you want me to post all you prejudices posts against China & Russia?

Have you blocked the countries already as it was requested by you?

Why would you still using Comodo, may I ask you, if those countries has to be banned
… you are surrounded by Chines / Ukrainian / Russian developers

Uninstall Comodo; uninstall any Operating System and though your computer from the balcony
Russians, Chines , Indians are everywhere … spooky!! … ghhhrrr! ….those bastards are all around

lol
What are you talking about?
I have many friends who are from China, Russia including some other countries in my real life.
prejudices?
Kidding me?
I don’t have any racial prejudices.
I only hate malware attacks and hacking attempts from those countries, not people.
Is that racial prejudices and discrimination?
And why are you talking about that here and now?
Do not bring comodo, eXPerience, panic etc here.
ok?
Because they are not related with this stupid situation.
Do you think they make a round with you if you bring them here ?
I don’t think so.

:-X

Please stay in OffTopic only (!!!) and tease Ganda – that is the only thing you can succeed in and that's all you can do here

If I post the number of mistakes you’ve done posting your “advices” - that would be many annoying pages … quite a list !

Yes nobody… anybody can “understand”… except you

I was trying to avoid any posts of yours … I will try to do that in the future

At this particular stage, when all was said about NTFS formatted flash drives the original poster is the only one to decide

Hoping not to meet you again in the same thread

What an insanity…
Cut it out everything and
give me an answer.
What kind of format do you use if you want to carry over 4 GB as a single file instead of NTFS, CD-ROM

guys,behave yourself >:(
