224.0.0.2

I know what 224.0.0.2 is used for. The question is, why all of a sudden am I getting alerts from COMODO asking for permission for program “X” to access/use 224.0.0.2? I never received it before. Thanks for your help!

What program does the alert mention? The IP address is part of the Multicast protoctol. It means that the program is is making its presence known. broadcasting, to router(s) on your local network.

As I indicated previously, “I know what 224.0.0.2 is used for”. Even programs I’ve written, that don’t access the Internet or Intranet have shown this recently (not all of them). So it makes no sense, unless it is a false positive by COMODO.

I searched for release notes for my version of 5.12.256249.2599 on Comodo.com, and it returned nothing. I then just searched for release notes, and the most current on Comodo.com was “5.10.228257.2253: 12 March, 2012”

This raised a flag. I search this forum, and the only posts recently was:

  • COMODO Internet Security 5.12.256249.2599 Released
  • COMODO Internet Security 5.10.228257.2253 Released!
  • Update of CIS from 5.10.228257.2253 to 5.9.221665.2197?

The last one is strange… other individuals has notices of a downgrade (LOL).

All of these issues raises flags for me. It seems to me that there is an issue with COMODO.
