Oh, must be a different Tech...
Seems that we need to prove everything we talks... Nobody trusts me.
When I say I'm not a Moderator (present tense of the verb) it does not mean I was not in the past. In fact, Pavel "promoted" myself without my knowledge (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=16514.msg17030#msg17030) to be Moderator on Thursday, 22-01-04, 18h08. Pavel himself closed the forum at Monday, 19-09-05, 17h10 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=16516.msg140170#msg140170). Since then, I'm not a Moderator anymore.

So, my words, I'm not a Moderator. Just an user.

Yeah, I'm sorry Tech, I didn't even notice that 'off topic' had been closed...forget I mentioned it.
It doesn't matter either way.  :a0

And even it was a live forum, would it be a problem? ;)

I just want to share my thoughts about Comodo.

For me:

1. Comodo is a competitor of avast, AVG and Avira as the three big "A"s sell a product that Comodo releases for free.

2. avast, AVG and Avira aren't competitors of Comodo for the same reason: Comodo already releases a full suite (antivirus, firewall, HIPS, etc.) for free, so the others aren't directly the competition. Ok, they take the mouth-to-mouth and eat the market share... but, not in the same products.

3. The Comodo competition is Symantec (Verisign) and other paid services (of online backup, for instance, but also encryption, connection privacy, digital certificates). Melih knows that, acts with this in mind.
Melih, is this data correct? I mean, seems it is a little bit twisted toward avast.
AVAST, ESET, Symantec together control 40% of the global AntiVirus market. Comodo has 1,21% of market share both worldwide and North American. The avast! Antivirus maintain the title of number one antivirus vendor worldwide with 17.53% global market share but it is much less from June 2010. Current data shows that 58% of respondents were using a free solution, confirming the trend noted when compared to a 42% free solution share as shown in our June 2010 report.

Melih, is this market share corrected measured?

Hi LaserWraith

1st, the "legitimacy" of the question it too broad notion, despite I understand what you mean

Problem as I can see it is not "experiencing too many anti-Comodo people" (I do not remember many, who were really "anti-"s ... and uncles  :D) , but rather experiencing the interpretation of practically any even slight (not harsh) criticism  as being "anti-Comodo"...
My regards

There is some truth in this statement unfortunately. However this exists in every other security forum as well.

Not for me Tech no.
No problem with that at all as that should not matter a jot.  :)

Perhaps I could pose a different question to Melih...

Of what relevance is Bob's employment to his involvement in this forum? How does the former influence the latter? Does it?

Can anyone else see the pdf here? http://www.oesisok.com/news-resources/reports/q4-2010-antivirus-backup-client-and-windows-os-reports

I think this line has a lot to do with the findings, likely mostly corporate!

Data was collected from a sample of the estimated 100 million endpoints that employ the OESIS Framework. OPSWAT analyzed almost ninety thousand opt-in reports that were submitted between August 16 2010 and November 15 2010.
