Hi Sanya,

The product does have HTTPS filtering. This was number one on my list of essential features for the product.

Which browser and OS are you using?

Could you give your system a reboot to ensure all browser processes have been restarted to allow PrivDog to filter the HTTPS traffic properly?

Shane.

Comodo Dragon (latest public release) and Windows 10 Technical Preview, but it seems my issues were with an extension https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/referer-control/hnkcfpcejkafcihlgbojoidoihckciin <- if I have that enabled and set up to block 3rd parties it breaks PrivDog on many sites, prohibiting it from removing ads.

Another thing I noticed is that you seem to be able to support HTTPS sites by replacing the certificate that sites use as can be seen from the screenshot below of Google Chrome. I am personally 100% against such modifications and I'm now permanently uninstalling PrivDog.

Edit: Screenshot attached.

Great thanks  :-TU

I have a question. Will you continue to develop extension of PrivDog?

We may continue the Firefox plugin.

regarding your https bug. Could you please add the details? thank you!

about CPU problem. We will check again. thank you for the detailed review. The feedback will be very helpful in improving our product (CLY).

Hi Eric,

HTTPS filtering is complicated because the traffic is encrypted within a fully authenticated PKI system.  We do have it, a restart should solve this for you.

Could you PM me your email address and I'll work directly with you to support your Opera and resolve the other issues?

Shane.
You are right the https issue is an Opera 12.17 issue. I sent you a pm.

I've been testing out PrivDog 3.0.0.96 on Opera 26.0.1656.60 and it works quite well, However at first it seemed to struggle, but after 2 to 3 Browser refreshers it started to work just fine.

However for Internet Explorer 11  PrivDog 3.0.0.96 does not work, please look at Capture.

As for the Capture, I tried lots of sites and non of them work.

So I went into Privdog Control Panel and went to Preferences/Choose browser to protect and I disabled Internet Explorer, by clicking it until it said Not Detected in Red

Now look at Capture 2, where you things working as normal

Hope this helps

Regards for 2015 to everyone

See post 15 above, PrivDog replaces the certificate for sites and essentially only Comodo browsers trusts the CA that PrivDog uses. Questionable method to say the least, already resulted in several sites using EV certs to show lesser certs.

Thanks for that Sanya IV Litvyak

It works fine with Opera 26, however that is chromium / Chrome/39.0.2171.95.

I am puzzled when you told me this> PrivDog replaces the certificate for sites and essentially only Comodo browsers trusts the CA that PrivDog uses  < when I'm using Opera.

Maybe opera trusts Privdog as CA or PrivDog doesn't replace them for opera browser?

I got an email from Shane about the technical challenges of getting it to work with classic Opera and also shines a light on the techniques used:
Quote
The preliminary information I have from them is Opera 12 uses an online certificate store.  To handle filtering SSL we need to do some type of interception, decryption, filter and then encryption again. The problem arises due the nature of asymmetric encryption that we’d need the private key of the publisher to encrypt the traffic again and still stay authenticated.

We use the same approach many AVs have taken.  On install we generate a root certificate with random keys and install it into the local certificate store.  We then generate a certificate on-the-fly for each web site visited and pass our certificate back to the browser.  We then have a man-in-the-middle allowing the software to decrypt and re-encrypt.

With an online certificate store we don’t have access to a safe local store to insert these install time generated certificates.  The team will look into your version further in future sprints to see if we can find a way to do it but at this time they feel they won’t be able to find a way.  As you can imagine the whole nature of PKI is designed so we can’t read encrypted traffic, so it’s a big challenge.

Hello NPoberezhnaya,

I tried what you told me, and it still shows same, I tried other address like google.co.uk and bbc.co.uk and same Result under I.E. 11 when Privdog is active for Internet Explorer.

However if I press Continue to this website (not recommended). It works fine, but address bar goes Red.
Regards

Nige

It blocks much less compared to adblock plus.

I browsed torrent site kickass. I dont get any advert with adblock plus but with privdog all advert were there, all those kind of banner like ads of matrimony, dating, etc... & sometimes adverts are kind of porno.

adblock plus is much better on my family system.
