AV-Test did test CIS 6 in its Feb. 2013 test. Go over to their site if you want to take a look.

I'm using Comodo Free Firewall for well over a year now. But, sometimes I like to test out other free alternatives. I very much loved ZoneAlarm Free Firewall, since it automatically configures itself for the best possible security. Also, I have used Private Firewall and TinyWall; both relies heavily on user interaction.
Coming back to the point, I preferred Comodo Free Firewall, because it is very much user friendly, and can be manually configured by the user, if he may choose so, but at the same time it provides robust protection. And I absolutely loved the user interface it had back then: TABBED controls, and every possible controls present within a few clicks.
But, the 2013 upgrade really SUCKS!!! You have to dive really deep into the Settings pane to change even the simplest firewall controls; even the Tray icon is hopeless!!! Previously I could configure every Firewall option, right from the Tray Icon, but in this new version they are all omitted!!! The new interface is really immature and kiddish.

[I signed up just now, only to protest against the new interface]

I agree that the new version comes with a suite of new useful utilities, but without a proper and mature user interface, It SUCKS!!

I'm not well up on this.

What happens when CIS encounters big virus signature database files of 133 mb in size?

cis is really a good antivirus but it has a problem with big virus signature data base file which is 133 mb and it is increasing day by day. so it is very problematic for the slow net connection users to  update the virus signature data base files (manually or automatically) please do something on it  so that no one face this problem in future. :)

I know what you mean.

Some web sites' reviews are unfairly biased, which, unless it's obvious they're biased, makes it impossible to know how reliable their reviews are, most serious of all if people are recommending untrustworthy products that damage users' computers or invade their privacy as 'reliable', as I found recently while looking up information on defragmenters.  Some people say CNet's reviews are biased.  I'm not sure, but from my time viewing and contributing to messages on this forum, I've found the reviewers here to be very impartial. :)

They only test AV from what I know. It's not that. The statistics do change rapidly, sometimes don't change at all for weeks, server goes down and up and at times so called daily testing is just ridiculous saying that the AhnLab beats Comodo in detection ROFL!

Not to mention that they have their favorites esp ESET always on top most of the time.

Thanks L.A.R.Grizzly, ad18 and everyone else who posted replies to my Q.

I did a bit of goooogling and I was surprised at Results to see that Avast now surpasses Avira.

I am currently using Avira 2012 (did not like their 2013 ... too aggressive and Bossy) with Comodo FW set in Safe Mode ... I did have the Defense+ turned off since Avira was asking me to ... but I just turned it back on and in "Safe Mode" also.

Q: What do you guys think?  Is this enough protection? And Good one?

BTW, I surf all over ...  >:-D

Instead of trying to get to different programs to get along with each other, I just trust Comodo for both the FW and AV. I've been using Comodo since it was two separate products (FW and AV). I've never been infected. I don't worry too much because, if I do get infected, I have my whole system on another HDD which I can restore if needed.

My input on the subject of "signatures". Does not a good "cloud-based AV" contain "all" of the signature database within? Does not Comodo have an "continually" growing cloud-based database?

Just a question.

Hi L.A.R.Grizzly,

Thanks for your input & Help ... I might opt for CIS 6 after I see some of the Complaints about the GUI and access to various Options been resolved ... since AVIRA does give me a Lot More Control over the Set-Up.

... Does not a good "cloud-based AV" contain "all" of the signature database within?  ... Roger

A Newbie Question ... is the "Cloud-Based AV" as Effective as Resident one ... one that sits on your Hard Drive?

Thanks!

G!:)

The cloud has all av signatures including the ones that are not sent to the local databases yet with an update. With the cloud you have the latest av definitions available from the moment they are made and tested.

The cloud av bridges the time getting an av definition available and getting it to end users with updates.

THAT'S WHAT I LIKE OF COMODO CIS 6 version, this cloud technology!!! ;)
I think the cloud option is not by default in CIS 6, you have to set it up.

By default all running processes will be checked against the cloud. This is true regardless of whether the AV component is installed or not.

I'm running this version on a very heavily modified Windows 8 (Added Start Menu back, disabled Modern UI, Modern UI Apps run in a window, transparency on the taskbar and start menu, thinner window borders, ....) and all I can say is that it is lightning fast! There is not a single slow down on the computer, and it's way faster than before, I don't know if that is due to Windows 8 or CIS 6 or both.

Thanks to the devs. I'm looking forward to the forthcoming updates that will make it even better.
