Hello,

Is there an updated removal tool for CIS v. 8.0.x.xxxx ?

Thanks,

HJLBX
No. It supports version <8.2.0.4508>. 2013 version is the same as 2014 version from my observations.

I've attached the official version (given by GeekBuddy) which includes some additional features:
* remove temp files
* run disk cleanup

Hope it helps.

These  features were deliberately removed so please use with care.

Q, many thanks for posting this, but I think once downloaded by hjlbx, it would be better to remove the link if you don't mind. The full version of the GB tool removes, without adequate warning, stuff unrelated to CIS that some people may want preserved.

These is another post in the stickies relating to more complete manual removal.

That's not valid. The posted version prompts the user for every action category:)

Code: ("prompt") [Select]
echo 3. REMOVE TEMP FILES
echo ======================================================
echo 4. RUN DISK CLEAN UP
echo ======================================================
Code: ("forward") [Select]
if %choice% equ 3 goto TEMP
if %choice% equ 4 goto DISK CLEAN UP

Hope it helps.

Hello qmarius and mouse1,

I don't need the GB Removal Tool... I just was curious if a new removal tool had come along since initial 8.0 build.

I always clean install the Windows OS and then CIS.

I do it this way to eliminate any doubt regarding a prior install interfering with the existing.  It makes my life easier.

Best Regards,

HJLBX

What about Comodo .tmp files located in the C:\Windows\Installer directory? I have found that Comodo's uninstaller doesn't clean it's self so well and leaves traces here. This probably explains why after you uninstall CIS cleanly (according to this post), when you reinstall the program and open "View logs" and select any category (Antivirus, Firewall, Defense +, etc) and on the drop down filter select "Entire Period" CIS will show logs since the very first time since it was installed even if you installed in weeks ago and preformed a "Clean" reinstall.

Comodo's .tmp files are digitally signed from what I have gathered. Can anyone comment on this?

Yes. That is the case just as you explain it.

I used to use the Comodo removal tool followed by a manual file system and registry clean-up.

My solution now is to clean install Windows OS and then re-install CIS immediately afterwards... every time... although I am willing to such a thing I fully understand the typical user is not willing to do so due the "inconvenience" of it all.

I think a reinstall is a bit much, but I do agree that CIS's installer does a poor job removing it's keys and leaves a lot of junk on your system compared to other Security products. Just checking my registry for "cmdagent" or "comodo" after removing CIS always returns a lot of keys, even if I run this "cleanup tool".

The primary reason I always do OS and CIS clean installs is that when exploring and reporting bugs it removes any doubt regarding prior install remnants causing any problems.

It is an inconvenience to do so, but I have found it eliminates a lot of problems.

Yes.  Comodo Removal Tool leaves a lot behind and requires manual system clean-up to avoid issues with CIS re-install.

I used to get all bent out of shape about it.

Now I realize, unfortunately, nothing is perfect and I have come to tolerate such things.  Afterall, this is information technology, isn't it...?

To me, despite all CIS' quirks and the frustrations that go along with using it, it still remains a very worthwhile security solution.

Best Regards,

HJLBX

I've been using comodo firewall for a long time, and most of the times comodo worked fine.  Too bad that now I encounter this irrecoverable situation and CIS is still buggy with windows 8.1.  Wish it was more stable than having focused so much on expanding features.

Please don't hijack this topic or crosspost. I think it already has a bug report. So Comodo should be aware of it.

I thought I would post this here in case other people have the same problem:
I was helping someone who had Comodo Internet Security 2013 under Windows 10, which they could not uninstall or disable.
The problem appears to start when a user upgrades Windows with CIS active, (not recommended by Microsoft who suggest that all third party AV packages are disabled first). In this user's case they had upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8, the Windows 8.1, then Windows 10, and then the Windows 10 upgrade to version 10586 in November 2015.
Uninstall of CIS was not possible through add/remove programs as the CIS installer/uninstaller appeared to be missing. CIS was running, as too was Windows Firewall. The solution, (some of which is mentioned earlier on this thread) is:
1.Use autoruns from Sysinternals to stop all Comodo processes and drivers from loading:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902
2. Restart the machine and check the network adapter settings. If Comodo Firewall Driver is bound to the card disable it and restart the machine
3. Windows Defender and Windows Firewall should now activate automatically
4. Use Microsoft Fixit Portable Uninstaller to remove CIS. Although Microsoft say that it is not supported under Windows 10, the uninstaller option works well and can be used to remove programs that are not correctly registered in the installer database. The version that works well is 4.1. If you have trouble finding this I can  post a link to my Onedrive to download it.
5. Restart the machine and use a registry cleaner to remove any remaining redundant keys. I use CCleaner, which seems to work well for this purpose.
6. Restart the machine and you now have a faster computer using Windows Defender/Windows Firewall, which for most domestic use is sufficient.

I am very surprised that Comodo do not have a removal tool for their current products that would avoid this manual method of removal when the program cannot be removed by the standard Windows Installer. Most other providers, (for example Mcafee, Norton etc) have cleanup tools that can remove their installed products. Microsoft's decision to bundle a fully working, if basic, Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware with Windows since Windows 8 has rendered the need for a third party solution questionable. If users are sensible and do not open unknown attachments, or download files from dubious sources the functionality offered by Windows Defender is sufficient to guard against most things. Nothing is 100% perfect and there are times when other packages can be used to check for specialist malware and browser hi-jacks.
Hope this helps someone who happens this way

Hello,

At my wits end with error 1603 which always pops up at 99% of installation. When I click on the pop up informing of the error, another pop up appears congratulating me that Comodo has been installed, yet even though there is a folder in Program Files, Comodo does not appear in Control Panel's install/uninstall list, so I could not uninstall via that route.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and used Revo UninstallPro, and while it got to the point that it says there are no more files or registries, poking around shows that there is still a folder in Program Files-COMODO-GeekBuddy-lps-cspm-components-core-component2-configuration_1033 (Data Base File).

I've also used CCleaner to scan and delete registry remnants until it too shows no more from Comodo.

I'm so glad to see this thread with alternate removal options, but before I try them, I have some questions:

Can I use Chiron's additional removal tool (https://forums.comodo.com/install-setup-configuration-faq-cis/uninstaller-tool-for-comodo-products-inc-cis-v5-t71897.0.html;msg511531#msg511531) even though it's from 2010? Does it work for the latest Comodo versions?

Is it a Comodo issue or a Windows issue that I cannot see Comodo installed in Control Panel programs list?

I see rigo's handy additional steps on page 8 here, so I will try these as well, just want to make sure I can use Chiron's tool first.

Thanks very much. Fingers crossed this works!

You can use that tool as well but definitely use the one meant for Win8.x: https://forums.comodo.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=58620.0;attach=114365 .

Also use Windows Installer Cleanup Utility as linked in part B section 1 of the guide. If it shows remnants of CIS let it remove them.

I use the following two free registry cleaners for general registry cleaning that do a good job that I would advice to also use to see if that helps to get rid of the 1603 error:
Eusing Free Registry Cleaner
Auslogics Registry Cleaner
