Hi. I am a new Comodo user. ZAP was just getting too buggy for me. So last weekend I installed Comodo Firewall, Comodo Backup and CSC. I too had the issue with cleaner_validator.exe pounding my core i5. Bugs are one thing, but I find it more than unfortunate that Razvan (Comodo official?) would post that this process only grabs CPU when system is idle.

I opened Google Chrome from which I watch Netflix on my HDMI connected 2nd monitor. On the laptop screen I ran some monitor apps and sure enough, the usual 25% to 75% activity on my cores were pegging out at 100% when cleaner_validator was running. The same was true with Quake3 when I ran some recorded game matches (demos use less CPU than live action) which didn't usually peg out my cores either. But cleaner_validator was doing it's thing smashing them cores up to 100% with game vid hiccups galore. So yes. I set that process to manual start up and just kill when I'm Done with CSC

 :-\ What gives Razvan?
dont expect a reply from him. he said that problem was going to be fixed in the next beta release but nothing has been released for about 2 months and no word from him either. it seems like everyone has given up on csc. as for comodo backup and firewall you made a great choice and will get all the help you need for both.

I am also having a problem with ZIP files appearing corrupt when Cleaner_Validator is active, I am using WINZIP 9.0 SR-1. I almost deleted some very important zip files until I realised by chance that if I shutdown cleaner service then I can access my zip files again. So now I have to shutdown Clean_Validator every time I open a zip file!

First post here, and I'll jump straight in. Has anything been done about this resource-heavy beastie yet? It's regularly using 50%+ of my CPU and the noise the fan makes is really irritating as it cools down my system entirely due to the presence of this program.

I recently bought Comodo Internet Security Complete 2012, and it's great, freeing up resources and speeding up my system after having removed a certain Russian-sounding AV program, so it's a pity that CSC has this ongoing issue... Or does it? Have I overlooked a fix, please?

Although I created a recent post reporting a problem with CSC, I don't believe the following has anything to do with the reported problem, as I've been using this process for months without any issues. Nevertheless, use it at your own risk:

Copy the following into a file with a .vbs extension, then run it anytime (by double clicking) to simply terminate Cleaner_Validator. You may find that CV is restarted after a CSC update. I've created a Scheduled Task to run the script shortly after the Update is scheduled to run:

Option Explicit

Dim objWMIService, ObjShell, colServiceList, ObjService, errReturn

Set ObjShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

Const strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")

' Stop dependent services, in case there some
Set colServiceList = objWMIService.ExecQuery ("ASSOCIATORS OF {Win32_Service.Name='Cleaner_Validator'} WHERE AssocClass=Win32_DependentService Role=Antecedent")

For Each objService in colServiceList
  errReturn = objService.StopService()
Next

  Wscript.Sleep 500

' Stop required service
Set colServiceList = objWMIService.ExecQuery ("SELECT * FROM Win32_Service WHERE Name='Cleaner_Validator'")
For Each objService in colServiceList
  errReturn = objService.StopService()
Next

When is something going to be done about this - on an older system running win XP sp3, with only one processor - this process can lock the whole system for minutes (yes.. minutes!) at a time.

I have recently been investigating issues causing slow boot and sluggish
response on my machine.  In task manager, I noticed that cleaner_validator.exe
was at the top of the list for memory usage with the system idle.  I don't
recall that CSU ever informed me that it was going to install another service
on my machine, so I went into services configuration and disabled it.

The machine is booting much faster now, and the system, in general, has a
much more responsive feel to it.  Too bad.. I was just starting to get cozy with
this utility.

Regards.

clean_validator.exe is not a process of comodo system utilities it was replaced/removed. you must be using comodo system cleaner. CSU is still in beta and it has many bug fixes.

Hi:

Thanks for the follow-up.

You are correct.  I am using Comodo System Cleaner.  I have updated my sig
accordingly. Thanks for the clarification.

I must admit that I'm a little confused about why Comodo is placing CSC on
the CSU download site at this address:

http://www.comodo.com/home/support-maintenance/system-utilities.php

Also, what is the correct forum for posting on this issue?  Everyone seems
to be posting here under CSU.

When you say that CSC has been removed/replaced, are you saying that
it is obsolete and no longer in development?  Or do I have to go with
the CSU package to get this functionality?  I am hesitant to download
and install another Comodo product until I'm clear on what's happening.

CSC is being replaced with CSU. its the same program with the same functionality but with major internal improvements.

This BETA won't replace the old CSC, only the final release will do that. So please uninstall CSC before testing.

We modified quite a lot of code in CFM . Even if it looks like the old CSC, what's underneath it's mostly changed. We tried to address all the bugs reported in the old version. So because we see this as a new version, I didn't posted a "what's fixed " list. If bugs are found, I'll post this list starting with the next release.

In the beginning it was called comodo faster master but the users did not like the name so with the second beta they changed the name to comodo system utilities. CSU is still in beta but comodo has changed the name here on the forums and on their main site (comodo.com) this was my compaint aswell. They shouldnt have changed anything until the final release.

If you like CSC i would recommend you try CSU beta. i can tell a huge difference in the performance of my system and the program itself. CSU's services run light on the system

I use CSU portable which has no services or processes in the backround

I downloaded the portable version too, but I can't get it to work for me.
When I launch the program, no matter which section I select.. it just
shows as "loading".  I let it run for several minutes, but it never finishes.

Maybe I'll try it again when it's out of beta.

Wow!  Not only did CSU portable not run.. but it also created a restore
point each time I restarted it!

It's now in the recycle bin, never to be heard from again.

Thank god I've got CCleaner to delete those restore points.
