I think I did “download” the Certifikate, since it shows up in the Keychain-app on my Macintosh.

But how to proceed from there is riddling me … where to get some support or hints?

Unfortunately I cannot find anything that relates to the mail-client on the Mac OS X …

It might be this:

Right click on the certificate in Keychain Access.app and select “New Identity Preference…”. Then add the email address you want to use the certificate when you send from it. After a Mail.app restart, the certificate symbol will appear in the header of new messages.

Once I went through this step, I could sign messages. If it works for you, then it should probably be added to the how-to page.
