Here is a question for everybody.
Google updated their browser, and suddenly it no longer works with CIS.

Shouldn't you people be blaming Google for breaking it and requesting they fix it?  Seems to me this is not Comodo's issue, even though Comodo is graciously willing to find a resolve for it.  Nobody should be complaining to Comodo about their browser not working, insisting Comodo come up with a fix.  They should instead be asking, nicely, if Comodo can come up with a fix, and be happy with the answer provided them.

You got that, Yro?

I agree John, I have been asking the same question. ;)
I think it is noble of Comodo to fix up issues they didn't create.

Kind regards.
....Can you please answer me one thing.
Why is it that after a Windows update something on the system appears broken everyone jumps on Microsoft that their update broke my system, but when Google updates Chrome breaking compatibility with already installed and functioning software that it is not Google at fault?....

Comodo directly injects code into chrome.exe (the executable is targeted by name... which is why renaming it unbreaks Chrome). Any product that is so targeted to a particular application and the specific assembly code inside it (in this case, Comodo are injecting into the SSL stack in order to "Man in the Middle" your secure communications with websites such as banking), is likely to break when updates come out.  See the bug for more details of the injection happening and how it's breaking Chrome - https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=527496.

We strongly advise vendors not to do this type of injection because of the adverse affect on performance, stability and security. However, if a vendor chooses to still inject into Chrome despite these negative implications, we release early versions of Chrome to our Dev and Beta channels early for compatibility testing. In fact, Chrome 45 has been in Beta since July 27 [1] so there has been plenty of time for Comodo to fix their injection and prevent this ever impacting users.

We encourage Comodo and other AV companies that insist on injecting code into Chrome to test on Dev/Beta channels to avoid this type of issue happening again.

Will

The latest release of CIS was August 6. Which is pretty close in time and the change of Chrome is likely not taken into account for that release. I kindly point out that Comodo and many others do not adhere to a 6 weeks release schedule.

Eric, I noticed on your video you said you ended up with the 32bit version. Google also install the 64bit version in the 32 bit programs area. I too ended up with the 32bit but after a bit of investigation managed to get the 64bit version

Check your version of Chrome ... if you are on Version 45 and have a 64 bit operating system and it does not say 64 bit after it you can download the 64bit chrome from here. Note this will immediately open the download and take you to their conformation page. Make sure you close Chrome after starting the install.

This is what it should say if you are on a 64 bit operating system

Version 45.0.2454.85 m (64-bit)

Props for the video go to CIS-1. I didn't make it. ;)

I checked and you're right. It does install the 64 bits version in the Program Files (x86) where it should not be installed. That's sloppy and confusing.  :-X

For all people who have been watching the video. You can follow the instructions as given in the video. It says to either look in the Program Files (x86) or Program Files folder. The instructions will get you where you need to be.

The workaround has worked for me thankfully but I don't even have HIPS enabled, so I would expect any HIPS functions to be disabled, including "Detect shellcode injections". Whether it's Comodo's or Google's fault that Chrome crashes with HIPS enabled, I think it's definitely Comodo's problem that disabling HIPS doesn't disable all the HIPS features, as anyone would expect.

[at] doveman and others:
Hello everybody,

We would like to inform  our users who had crash after they update their Chrome 44 to 45 ( related bug report is here https://forums.comodo.com/bug-reports-cis/guard32dll-kills-chrome-45-t112785.0.html;msg817958#msg817958); you will receive an update on Monday as we are now working on the fix and it will be released on Monday.

In the meantime, here is the temporary fix for you to apply:

https://help.comodo.com/topic-72-1-623-7731-HIPS-Settings.html#detect_shellcode_injections

Try adding Chrome to the Exclusions of Detect Shellcode Injections.Add the exclusion when chrome is not running, it will work after you add the exclusion and detect shellcode injections must be enabled for the exclusions to take affect.

For your kind attention please,

Best Regards
Buket
