Startup Errorz

Numerous errors, run the post_setup.sh says run from Menu or Desktop. Did that. More errors to save to somewhere. Did that. Uploading. Scan worked, 0 problems found. Thought so since I’m running Linux Mint 64 bit. Comodo AV 4 Linux also works great on a PC with only 768MB RAM and not the 2GB RAM stated in the “Minimum Hardware Requirements”. Makes me wonder if it will run on my notebook with only 499MB RAM too. I beg your pardon: now it tells me I cannot upload an .XML file, but that’s the format Comodo demands to save the error file. So I’ll rename it and deciphering it will be your problem!

hi VHS2DVD

thanks for your output.

Your output only shows these two errors:

<Driver Name="redirfs" Status="Failed"/>
<Driver Name="avflt" Status="Failed"/>

I can tell you, why you have this error. The problem shown in your output is this: your ComodoAntiVirus is not completely installed.
And one question to you: does COMODO tell you, that the filesystemdriver is not loaded in the left pane of the main windows?? Is this shield-Icon in red color??

If so, then you should follow these steps, I have written here:

https://forums.comodo.com/comodo-antivirus-for-linux-cavl/help-filesystem-filter-driver-is-not-loaded-t105780.0.html

for the final installation of COMODO AntiVirus in your system. Afterwards, reboot your machine and everything should be fine.

Then I also read that you plan to install COMODO AntiVirus on a Notebook with 499 MB RAM. There I can tell you:

YES it is possible and as Distribution I would recommend Lubuntu (Lubuntu-Desktop) or even Xubuntu (Xfce-Desktop) to you. These need far fewer hardware-resources than the normal general Ubuntu-Distribution.

So I recommmend do this (Installation-Instruction):

  1. choose ether Lubuntu or Xubuntu as your Distribution. You get them here:

http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Downloads

  1. install ONE of these both Distributions.

  2. Do a reboot as prompted after Installation of your Distribution.

Then afterwards the steps differ a bit, depending if your graphic-card is AMD or Nvidia or Intel.

If your have Intel-graphics, then continue with these steps:

  1. then follow these steps for a clean Installation of COMODO AntiVirus, which I have written here:

https://forums.comodo.com/comodo-antivirus-for-linux-cavl/help-filesystem-filter-driver-is-not-loaded-t105780.0.html

Then also reboot this machine

If you have AMD or Nvidia-graphics, then you need to do this first:

  1. at startup, press the shift-key to see the GRUB-Bootmenue.

  2. then press “e” to edit it.

  3. go to the line which shows this:

http://media.cdn.ubuntu-de.org/wiki/attachments/14/47/boot_grub1.png

your kernel might be different from the one of this picture.

here press space-key on your keyboard and enter this:

nomodeset

then press Alt+x to restart your machine.

Or if you have a graphical screen at boot your your distribution, then press F6 and in this list select “nomodeset”.

Look at this picture:

Afterwards press Enter here to boot your machine.

  1. When you are back on your desktop, we go to menue → preferences → Software.

Open this! There we select the tab with the name “drivers”. There we select the appropriate driver and install it.

  1. reboot your machine again.

  2. When you are back on your desktop again, then we need to do the first system-update via Terminal. Therefore go to your menue and open your Terminal.

  3. type this into your terminal:

sudo apt-get update

then follows this command:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Please wait until both commands have run through completely!! Then close your Terminal.

11 open your internat-Browser (Firefox or whatever) and first set the addons like NoScript, AdblockPlus, DoNotTrackMe, BetterPrivacy and BrowserProtect!! It may be necessary to restart your Browser several times. This does NOT require a system-restart!!

  1. Then go to the download-Page of Comodo AntiVirus here:

Download the right version for your machine.

  1. Close your browser and go to your download-folder. There do a rightclick on the downloaded .deb-file and select “open with gdebi”.

  2. install this package.

But then follow some more steps, to get the installation complete! Because you need one more file for the final installation.

  1. Therefore, we return back into your browser and go to this website here:

Here we download the appropriate driver.tar-file according to your kernel. Then close your Browser again.

  1. open your filemanager with root-previleges by doeing this:

  2. press ALT + F2 and type in this:

gksu nautilus

(for Ubuntu)

or

pcmanfm

(Because I just read that pcfman is the default filemanager in Lubunt 14.04 now)

or also

gksu thunar

(Thunar is the default filemanager in Xubuntu, which I also had recommended to you)

  1. In your filemanager go to your downloads-Folder and there search for driver.tar.
Rightclick it and select “copy” and “cut”

Then return to the folder /opt/COMODO. Open this folder and paste this driver.tar-file in by doeing a rightclick an a free space in this folder and selecting “paste”.

Then close this folder and open your Terminal from your menue.

  1. There we type in this command:
cd /opt/COMODO

then follows this command:

sudo ./post_setup.sh

press Enter and read this declaration slowly and carefully because:

a) you will be prompted to click “accept” when prompted to do so
b) you will have to enter your emailaddress
c) you will have to select the for you appropriate language-number from a list shown to you.

  1. Then again press Enter and let everything run through.

  2. Then follows a reboot of your machine and you are done!!

COMODO Antivirus is successfully configured, you can start it from Menu or Desktop.

Apart from the 1 error at the top, everything reinstalled perfectly in Linux Mint 17 64-bit.
Thank you so much for your exhaustive explanation below. I couldn’t have done this without you!
I rather opted for an English Ubuntu site as my German understanding is restricted to ‘Ich bin Sud-Afrikaner, ich verstehen nicht’

Is there a repository somewhere where I get updates?
