. . every time I try - as prompted - to do a scan. (This problem was reported before but the thread was old so I begin again here.)

Any advice people, please?

I’ve Linux Mint 17 x64, with Cinnamon, and everything else works fine.

Then it can be, that a system-check by COMODO is run in the background. Then it helps to check, if this service is just running. Just minimize your open windows and open COMODO to see, if the scanner is just running.
