codesigning for mac?

Hi

Just obtained a code signing certificate.

Can this also be used for digitally signing a Mac download (ie a .dmg file) ?

How do I do it? Is it just a case of copying the .dmg to my Windows box and using CODESIGN.EXE or whatever on the file there, or do I need to do this on the Mac and if so do you know the procedure?

I suppose a related question is - can I use the code signing mechanism to sign any file?

Impression I had was that it was using a microsoft technology specific to code (‘authenticode’?) but I’m new to this.
