Yes, disappointing there is still no Comodo team response on this much-needed feature, since Omeletguy promised to push it forward in June 2009 for inclusion in v4.0, and now we are up to v5.4.x.x. I suppose that some impediments might be the complexities of locating the correct registrar these days, given the increasing numbers of regional registrars, and also the trend toward requiiring captchas on whois requests. These might be tough nuts to crack. It would be appreciated if Melih or a Comodo team member could advise us users.

You're reading a bit more into what OmeletGuy actually said.

All he said was that he hopes it will be added, and he'd make a request in the Usability Study forum.

I'm sure he did make the post he said he would, but since OmeletGuy is just a user like you or I, making a request is all he can do. What does or does not get added to CIS is completely up to the developers.

So, what do you yourself know about how the developers received Omeletguy's input?

P.S. Didn't say or imply Omeletguy failed to follow through. Perhaps you are reading a bit more into what my post said. Comment on the non-response since 2009 of developer team was meant to be taken for what it's worth, and simply as stated, it's disappointing. And it's perhaps understandable, to the extent that my comments on possible impediments are valid. Over and out.

I don't know any more than you do about what the developers think of the suggestion.

Please if this is implemented then an option should be made available to turn it off as it will increase n/w traffic and uses bandwidth because of lookup.

+1 to mohan, because I can agree that flexibility on the DNS name facility is desirable to some. I would say +1 also, if it were suggested to have the DNS name lookup turned OFF as the Default setting. However, I would run with it turned ON.
And I might turn it OFF when I don't need to do troubleshooting with it.
My chief reason for asking to see the DNS name AND the IP (numerical) address is that, for more than a year now, I have been seeing firewall alerts reporting attempts to connect outbound TCP to 127.0.0.1, from explorer.exe or svchost.exe or jqs.exe (one at a time after each restart or logoff>login to Windows); and from firefox.exe or iexplore.exe or swriter.exe after each is opened from the Desktop shortcuts.
But, 127.0.0.1 doesn't tell me much about these anomalous outbound requests.

I expect that these requests are being redirected by my Windows HOSTS file, that CIS is catching the 127.0.0.1 after it comes out of the HOSTS file. I need to see the requested destination as it was originated by the requesting app. in order to diagnose its legitimacy. I can think of NO REASON (no good reason) why any Windows system component or Oracle/Sun/Java component ought to be trying to open a connection at startup with anything in the MVPS Hosts file - - but they do.
On thinking this through more deeply while typing this, I can see that it is a bigger, tougher task for the COMODO IS team than just adding a WHOIS module for DNS lookup. Now, I am seeing that we need CIS to find a capability to intercept the outbound connection requests at a point deeper in Windows, i.e., at a point prior to its hitting the HOSTS file; as well as after the HOSTS file, the same as currently. The display of both these "addresses" (if I may call them, both, "addresses") would prove valuable troubleshooting information, IMHO.
I am therefore, going to post a new Topic to replace this topic, to call for this, more comprehensive and valuable addition to the future CIS, and I invite all contributors to give us a + or - on that Topic. I will come back here and revise by adding the link to the new topic in this place, for the convenience of all, and will request the closure of this thread at that time; soon today, I hope.

K_ok_o_s,
A Reverse DNS is not required, A DNS request has already been done, and Comodo Firewall would have watched it happen because I have a rule saying to allow all DNS Requests. All Comodo Firewall has to do is regurgitate this Web address when the offending application tries to connect to it.

R&Ddude, Mohan,
No extra traffic required.

It is a very simple feature to implement.

Please COMODO, do it...

Yes, I too want host addresses, at least optionally, and shown in event file as well as individual alerts. An indication of country would also be very helpful. Thank you.
