In a future release (hopefully the next RC or the first public release), the "Run task before backup" option will work correctly, and you'll be able to use this to check for the presence of network shares etc (by running a small batch file to check for the presence of the backup destination and pausing if not found). Currently, this option just checks for the execution of the task, not the completion.

Hope this helps,
Ewen :-)

Yes, in the next release, it will work correctly and wait for the job to complete.

also - there was talk about CB specific filetype and need for installation. this would be resolved if no install (especially registry use) would be required. just copy and open with ...
just like portable apps.

I'd like to see the ability to exclude hidden/system files from a backup, as in version 1.

I have been a fan of Comodo products for some while.
Iam currecntly using Backup, CIS. CSC, Antispam and Verification engine.
I have install CB2 on my Computer - Win XP SP3 + Updates
I would like to be able to send the backup to DVD drive from within CB2 without the need to use another application.
Thanks for some great products.

Hello,
First of all: thanx Comodo for the great softwares.

Regarding Comodo Backup wish list :
- incremental backup: a must have function (to my opinion) typically to be able to have regular (daily or weekly) backups of a large disk and to avoid the backup to be soooo long!
- report errors after backup : ooops...it seems a little boggy here (example: I got this "date time Error accessing file [path]\parent.lock" in the middle of my logs but no error was reported at the end. The email message even reported that the backup was successful..)

Otherwise I like it..Nice interface, nice filter feature (e.g. to avoid backup the Firefox cache) etc..

Thanx

My Wishlist (short)

1) Option to use .ZIP format for backup files.

For me, having the backups in a proprietary format (.cbu) rather than .zip is a total deal-breaker. The great thing about the .zip format is that nearly anything can open it. In a disaster situation, I don't want to be forced to go find a copy of the program to install just to restore my files. That was the whole reason I chose CB v.1 over other backup solutions. If the .CBU format is needed for some types of backups (such as user settings, mail accounts, etc), that's fine. But when backing up just folders and files, give us back the .ZIP option. Without a .ZIP file option, CB v.2 is not a viable choice for me.

2) When doing a restore using CB v.2, 'Clean restore' should NOT be the default option. It's far too easy to accidentally wipe out a whole subdirectory or more of files when you are attempting to restore just a single file. And the program doesn't even warn you that you are about to delete files. Very dangerous! Make the 'Append files' option the default. A data protection utility should never default to data destruction.

The ability to be able to back up a single partition (ie. the partition that Windows is installed on) or complete hard drive outside of Windows (in its own DOS environment) onto a bootable CD/DVD Recovery Disk(s) with varying levels of compression, and also to be able to verify that backup against the original partition/hard drive.
This would be the only feature I would use in Comodo Backup, and I would reeally love to see it implemented.

Never mind CTM - a bootable rescue disk that can read and restore CBU archives would be nice. Wink

Here's my wish list:

1) Allow the use of the volume shadow service (VSS) to allow for "hot" backups when a disk or partition is actively being used during the time a backup is being taken.  This is especially useful when backing up the active system partition.

2) Make it ease to set up incremental backups to help streamline backups made during the week, for example.

Thanks!!

+1 - Also, I agree with the incremental backup feature.

Also, why not a system tray icon?

Hey John,

Write a batch file that contains "shutdown -h" and set this batch file to run after completion.
