How about something to encrypt files on your local disk, perhaps a bit like iVault but this would not just be for passwords but for any sensitive information.

Also, could this software be made to encrypt email attachments and create the encrypted attachment as a self-executing file, so a recipient could open the attachment without necessarily having to have the originating software on their local machine? A choice of encryption standards to choose from would also be good.

You can use GnuPG for all those functions, it is free, and available for windows, linux, Mac... if you use windows, you can install GPGshell GUI for GnuPG, which is very easy to use. You can make self extracting encrypted files, and if you want to use it to send and receive signed or encrypted email, you can use Enigmail extension for Thunderbird email client (it adds OpenPGP support to Thunderbird).

GnuPG is OpenPGP standard compatible, and provides several encryption algorithms, like AES 256 bits, and several hashing algorithms too. I recommend GnuPG version 1.4.9, (GnuPG 2 is not better or newer than that version, and it is not intended to replace v1.4.9, it just will have some other functions... once they finish the development...)

But GnuPG DOESN'T provide disk encryption... and it seems Comodo Disk Encryption doesn't encrypt files, so they are good complements.

I don't write this to discourage Comodo from developing that kind of tool, but I would rather see Comodo focusing on providing security on fields where there is not a high quality and free alternative, or where the tool's license is a bit restrictive...
