Do on to others that you have done to yourself

First of all, I want to explain that I am No Expert.....just a common punter who surfs the internet and uses his computer for everyday things like sending Emails writing the odd letter and fixing photographs.
I came across Comodo Firewall about 4 years ago, downloaded it and was reasonably happy with it.....it was free, not to complicated and as they say on the advertisements "it did what it said on the tin"........couldn't ask for much more.
Then they updated it a year or two back and then I had problems.....so I dumped it and reverted back to the original and I was happy again.
Then I read a review in "Webuser" Magazine and it highly praised the combined anti-virus and the firewall. So as I respect this Magazine I decided to give the new version a try once again. Wow am I glad I did, it is SUPERB reallly really SUPERB
I was so pleased with it I put it I on my other computer.....so easy to use and never gets in the way. Far easier than the first Comodo Firewall I had.
Anyway, due to an offer my daughter had on her computer of "kaspersky Internet Sercurity" for 3 computers I decided to replace my other computer's Comodo Firewall with the paid version of Kaspersky. Not at all pleased with it and as soon as "kaspersky Internet Sercurity" ends it's years subscription I will come back to Comodo. The computer I am writing this on has still it's Comodo Firewall and here it will stay.
Thanks to all on the Comodo Team for bringing this great product......soon all the computers in our house (five) will have Comodo securing them
Thanks again....keep up the great work you do.

The first time I used a Comodo product was the firewall.  Anyway, talk about a quirky firewall.

The permission windows drove me so crazy I finally uninstalled it. And I also tried the Secure

Email... impossible! Now, upon the recommendation of a friend, I am trying the Comodo System

Cleaner (strange why its not listed on www.comodo.com/home/free/free-protection.php along with

the other programs with the huge advertising Icons but is found only on a list on the top of the

page directing one to another page: http://www.comodo.com/home/support-maintenance/computer-

support.php).  Well, everything worked well until I tried to download the update of the newest

version of the product, which I was advised to do on the main window when I clicked "Check for

Updates". After it was downloaded, I get a message window with three options:
1. Upgrade or Repair
2. Remove
3. Close this Wizard.... which is set as the DEFAULT!!! Why? If one is upgrading, why not have

the default set to "Upgrade or Repair"?

Of course being not as enlightened as the people who write in these forums, I just clicked

"Next". Which of course, was wrong. Then, A window said I could use the installer later at any

time, but where is the installer, and how does one install it later? No information, and I

couldn't figure it out. Again, it's the same like so much of the computer software designed

today: either these people don't use what they design (or so it seems... like taking car

designers 25 years to put in coffee cup holders although most everyone drinks coffee...or tea),

or they are so advanced, they leave everyone else behind.

so I finally tried to just download the newest version from the Comodo website. Well, I did this

twice. After installation, I clicked onto the Comodo icon to start the program. I click onto the

"Check for Updates" again just to see if there was a last minute update, and nothing happens,

and nothing works. well, what is happening is that Comodo is silently waiting to begin the

updates on your system, but doesn't tell you it is doing that.... at least for about 1 minute

after the main window is opened. Then an information windows opens to tell you what programs are

being updated. So what happens next, Comodo asks me AGAIN to download the same update!

And then, when finally, everything is updated and works, it forces me to create a Restore Point.

but what does the software do, it just sits there silently, not saying anything waiting until

the "clean my computer" icon changes from gray to blue. (?)

Really, I think all this software is too user-UNfriendly for the average user, at least what I

have tried. I get none of this time-wasting nonsense using, say, Advanced System Care, or

Ashampoo WinOptomizer. Why does a simple update of a new version have to be so difficult,

Comodo?Huh I am very appreciative of all the free software but we also understand it is a ploy

to buy the pro versions. But if the free versions have these quirks, what is the incentive to

buy a paid program from you, Comodo?

1. Upgrade or Repair
2. Remove
3. Close this Wizard.... which is set as the DEFAULT!!!

Why? If one is upgrading, why not have the default set to "Upgrade or Repair"?

The reason the default is set to CLOSE is because the other options are destructive in nature. The safest way in these cases is to place the default focus on the non-destructive option, just in case people choose not to read what is in front of them and just press NEXT.

This isn't meant as a condemnation of your actions. It is simply an acknowledgement of the fact that a lot of people do exactly what you did and just press ENTER.

Placing the focus on the non-destructive action saves people from themselves. This way, if a destructive action is undertaken, it is done solely as a result of a deliberate action from the end user.

Hope this helps,
Ewen :-)

A. Have used CIS now for a couple years and have been very satisfied with how CIS performs. About 11 days back my system did start to slow down. First I did a basic cleanup of registry disk defrag etc.. but the system remained slow, which was due to a large Page File causing the hard drive to work excessively. So, next I uninstalled all programs I had recently updated or installed. But no! At that point I was about to pull hair. But decided to uninstall CIS and re-install it fresh. This worked, the Page File shrunk and my PC's hard drive was working again as it had before. I wonder what caused this? And how this can be prevented from happening again? Have I elected to make the wrong choice when CIS promted me to take action yes/no? And if, then what? Undecided

B. During the process I upgraded Comodo System-Cleaner (CSC) to the latest version. And regretfully found out that it does not work as well as the previous version.  CSC tries to carry out some updating of programs? The names of installed programs flash in a dialog box stating "UPDATING"? But CSC never finishes this task. And then refuses to carry out any other tasks before the "updating process" has completed! A perpetual circle???

Will appreciate Comodo's guidance on what I should do, please?

Sorry to hear about your problems. You are posting in the wrong place here unfortunately.

When on older hardware with ,512MB RAM excluding the pagefile from the AV may help to keep a system more responsive.

With regard to the problem with CSC please take a look in the CSC board. The problem has been noticed before and in my case it mysteriously solved its self. When needed start a new topic in the CSC board.

All I can say is WOW!  Your antivirus/firewall suite rocks so hard it's difficult to believe it's even real, more the less free.  I love it!  I love the essentially no impact on my system so I can use my computer without sharing  it half the time with the antivirus engine.  I love the customization.  I love the features.  I love everything.  As soon as the economy starts to turn around, I'm starting a legal business, and buying my corporate antivirus licenses here!
