Why is Comodo not included in MRG test (MERGED)
« on: April 26, 2010, 08:31:21 PM »
I noticed that Comodo is not being included in this test and I was wondering why?
http://malwareresearchgroup.com/?page_id=2

I clicked on the link to view the results and I noticed that it seems as if Comodo was removed from the test and its name blacked out.

Can anyone tell me what I'm missing here? Why isn't Comodo a part of this? The test seems quite interesting.

Forum said something to the effect that they were discarded for technical reasons.

Does anyone have any idea what that might mean?

I'm betting it has to do with Sandbox, as many tests would be reported as failed only because Sandbox will allow them to run

Reminds me of the issue with Softpedia. Comodo has a way of making (unnecessarily) enemies.

I assume the problem with the test is that the sandbox allows the file to run and thus it appears to the ordinary user that Comodo failed. If this is it then I disagree with Comodo being removed from the test as the system is still secured and besides, if the user wanted they can disable the sandbox and get alerts for everything.

What I really want to know is what is this Copyright issue about Comodo using their tool?

I asked MRG what was going on with Comodo being removed from the testing, then removed from the "most trusted" poll. This is the response I got:

"Well the technical issue means that Comodo team was not willing to accept the fact that their product gave no clear warning which would suggest blocking the threat. We didn't want to give them a pass and we decided to exclude them from the test as their behavior was going in the wrong direction.

There is also a Copyright issue involved as Comodo used our tool without permission.

One of the Comodo team representatives made some very hurtful and unprofessional remarks, until we get an official apology, Comodo will be excluded from all tests."

No, we did not exclude them because they hurt our fellings, we excluded them because of their unprofessional behavior behind the scenes

 ???

Maybe they got one of the famous "Comodo support replies" with terrible grammar?  88)

Perhaps support referred them to the forums. 88)

Watasha: On the merge thing. Let me put it another way.. we have 2 topics that effectively are the same. I either lock this topic or merge it with the other. Default action is lock. :)

If the Mods are having to talk about me then there must no be anything at all going on. I've been disgustingly good recently. 88)
