 Hi Siber.
Thanks for the information. But since I've already posted http://forums.comodo.com/portuguaordfsportuguese/erro-109-t51037.0.html  and it's not a bad advice, I'll leave it.
Thanks for reply, Jose
I gotta run now, but I promise I will do my homework in Português later  Grin

Off topic: I'm currently trying Outpost free and it's not bad at all.
Off-Topic! Yes, indeed!

But "onTopic" what I am thinking that there is another way as well.

Since Comodo firewall is protecting me well for a long time - from the very beginning it is possible to stay with the latest 3.xx.xxxxxx.YYY released

and never bother about the new one with integrated SandBox

How about that  Idea ?  Wink I think I'll do that.

Cheers!

I had to completely uninstall CIS to roll back to the previous version. This one caused the base temperature of the CPUs to be around 3-5°C higher for some reason. Did anyone else notice this?

I like the idea but how about updates? For how long will it be suported?

The CPU usage issue (50-80% CPU use) when opening MS Word 2003 still exists. But MS Excel now opens in the normal way.

I have also observed that when MS Word 2003 is opened, CPU is also used by spoolsv (legit MS file) and together MS Word, Spoolsv and CMDAGENT would keep CPU usage around 90% for sometime.

Easy - no updates as soon as v4 and the integrated SandBox officially released

You can uncheck auto-update or ignore the pop-up.
Sure there will be updates but the point is to use the very latest v3 only.

It will protect you "as is" just keep the latest installer backed up

That's all  Wink

Cheers!

Does anyone know what's going on with this "NEW" update for CIS? Just received a pop-up message that new updates are available. Did an update which went very quick, received a message that system needs to restart for updates to go into effect. Did the restart and CIS is showing 3.14.130099.587. Same version and release prior to the update..... Can someone tell me what this update was for? and if it was a true update, then why was there no change in the release and modification level?

Are you sure it didn't go from 586 to 587?

What I mean is: can you keep the latest V3 (no AV) indefinitely? Soon it will be an outdated product. Even the simplest FW needs an upgrade from time to time.

You can keep any old program and its installer handy as long as you want
and as long as it serves the purpose.

You probably are using some that are showing "end-of-life", say when you would check with Secunia or alike, but those could be perfect & helpful Software.

As for the Firewall update - until v3 is alive and supported - sure update
but after that -  don't update and it will work and protect us "as is" That was the point
That's just in case you don't want to change the Firewall Software

Moreover, that is quite possible that you will need clean reinstall in order to use v4
and v3 will stop notifying you about any updates.

Definitely you should stay in touch with any program you are using and update/upgrade but that will be either different Firewall or you may change your mind and try v4.

That is most unlikely the introduced concept will be changed, therefore that is most-most likely I personally will not use v4

Cheers!

Updater can kick-in (again) if you delete some "trusted software vendors"...

Good firewalls can only become outdated if connections change to a new standard, like IPv6. Otherwise, only D+ can be outdated...

Today I saw in my crystal ball:  sandbox will have a short life. Next OS generation/review will have full virtualization integrated... So, why worry now about the future?

Hi AeoniAn,

Thanks  - those are other very good points in addition to what was said about unneeded integration
(including the fact that HIPS Defense+ does not belong to the Firewall too by any means)

Now all updates/fixes (many!) will be related to the box & Defense+ but not to Firewall per se.

Why one would care indeed?!

Cheers!

Otherwise, only D+ can be outdated...

The problem is that D+ is responsible for leak protection.

Outpost also uses its HIPS the same way but you can configure it. You can enable leak protection and disable other monitorings.

I can understand that to a point but if the version, release, and modification level is current what would generate a product update??  I have not deleted any "trusted software vendors". As a matter of fact I haven't deleted anything. There was a definite download and install........

Hi donnyd,

If you are sure that it was an update from "587 to 587" that would be helpful for developers to know more details like the OS/ platform you are running and whether you are using a whole Suite or just Firewall
My apology if I  missed that info in one of your posts regarding the matter

Jose,

What I forgot to add re: keeping the last v3 and its latest installer that it would be helpful backing up the settings (Exported Policies)

Cheers!
