Kruis, we all know that the number of definitions is not a comparable item between the av. What do you want to see?
Generic signatures, heuristics, etc. could reduce *significantly* the number of signatures (and also increase performance and protection).
Here, more is not necessarily better.

And sometimes generic signatures and heuristics may lead to a greater FP rate.
Everything is debatable here.

Sure. As HIPS will go for popus...
But neither one nor the other are related to the "number" of signatures. A signature could also goes to a FP.

Signatures can contain a sub-categorie of a malware-family .
The count of Signatures says not it all.

this depends on the test samples Wink

AV companies pay these testing organisations.

I think you get two tests a year free and I believe that is what Comodo use.

No it wasn't, although they did pay for tests I believe.

It's not really for me to say, especially here. But, I'm sure you'll find more than a couple of versions on the Net. Smiley

Are they lying?
http://www.av-comparatives.org/en/about-us

Or let us say clearly: are they results influenced by money or paid - in this sense - by the av companies? Aren't they independent in any way?
Of course, regardless they are a non profit organization, they need money to live...
I have an NGO also. I'm completely independent of my financial sources.

What would they be lying about? They state
Quote
[AV-Comparatives is an Austrian Non-Profit-Organization, which is providing independent Anti-Virus software tests free to the public.
The give the results for free to the public. They don't state anything about if they charge the vendors being on test or not.
