Makes sense that all the paid antivirus vendors should be scared of Microsoft's Antivirus.

Windows Defender is already bundled with Vista and Windows 7, if Microsoft Security Essentials is bundled with this and later OS (and effectively it is in Windows 7 as far as I know, with the Windows Live installer option in the start menu)

Then Microsoft Secuity Essentials has the potential to become a very widespread program in the exact same way that Internet Explorer became the most used web browser. Because it works, and it's already there.

But then again I still think it's a good idea if Windows did come with an Antivirus program by default, it sure needs one!

Maybe it will in Windows 8....  Wink

But as I said, is there not even a mention of it through the Windows Live Installer? (which IS attached by default in Windows 7) I was pretty sure that when you go to install Windows Live Messenger, it suggests other programs such as Microsoft Security Essentials...

Symantec the system hogger you are.

They just say that because of Microsofts Security Essentals came out and its free like CIS.
 LOL what a joke,

CIS is very well keeping up, so is avast, avira and so on, there all beating Norton and there all free!!!!. Also now a days it tend to be the other way around, just look at Norton, McAfee and a cuple more, You have to pay and they do worse in tests then avast, Avira, CIS, and other free products.

VERY WELL SAID Men...

MSE will never be bundled into Windows. MS doesn't need another antitrust lawsuit.

What about Windows Defender then?

Windows Defender comes bundled with Vista and 7.
If you install MSE it will automaticly disable Defender (otherwise the anti-spyware function would be reproduced).

I think they are in a different play field, protecting users against online criminals is more in the interest of the "antitrust" people (governments, amongst others) and not to forget the end user then a Browser that got bundled. So they leave the Defender alone and fight them on the browser... but that's my idea of the story.

I was a symantec user and did so for many years until things started to go wrong and norton did not live up to the claims it was making when I recently removed Norton 360 I was left with numerous problems left as a legacy from Norton, dvd r/w could/would not be recognized and backup could not be removed and program folder and files cannot be removed this would have been fine if I was staying with Norton but I feel that when removing a AV program or any program for that matter it should not leave behind problems that need to be sorted out which caused such a problem. Many programs leave a residue but never have I seen or had the problems as with Norton.
