Er, um crikey - I'm missing something. Still don't understand why a top rated product is free. Can't believe I've paid a small ransom for what I have and my firewall failed your leak test. Looking forward to putting Comodo through its paces!

Been playing around security for 7 years , basically all the firewall I can find from free to trial ones...

Comodo Developers are scary from the first build I test which was v1.0 that I give up testing on to now v2.4 I am really ashamed of myself for letting go each development of Comodo Firewall which gets madly develop to something so superior.

Why do I say you guys are scary, no development in this world that I had played for 7 years of security that will say " Free for Lifetime ." The effort you put in in this firewall can say the price of it is equal to that of any Shareware Firewalls in the market or even more. ( No developers have such insane method to develop and resolve a product at such intense speed  Clapping)

I will always remember Comodo is the best firewall best support best people in here who will always get many people trust, you have already earned the trust in the first start of the development soon you will get much more than now.

I have been spreading the words of this great product Comodo Firewall Pro. Its really the security I looking for , a little for begineers , a lot for advanced , a lot for experts wow  (B) (J) (L) (R) Comodo Loves You

I just wanna say the last thing " You Guys Knows Poverty and you the one which millions will look up on"

I myself will not be able to purchase any of those shareware to me the past they were great till I researched and found comodo !.

Thanks again Bounce Angel

Oh dang!  I hate it when I create a nice message - and it times out on me before I post it!

Melih,

I am a user of your free e-mail cert - pointed by M$ Outlook - and today I wandered over to your site - quite by accident, I might add.

I saw the "free" stuff - nice lot by the looks of it - and I was puzzled, why free?
("Why bastard, wherefore base?" King Richard - Shakespere)
(Question:  Why is my quote being redacted?)

I composed a nice letter, sent it to the contact address, and expected one of two things:
(1)  A canned response from some total noob.
(2)  No response at all (the usual default)

Instead, I received a reply where the sender (Melih) took the liberty of tweeking my beak by tossing my signature right back in my face! (laughing!)

He also included a link to here - and intrigued, I came over to take a peek.

Epiphany #1:  This blasted blog is actually HOSTED by the company's CEO!
Epiphany #2:  The CEO is Melih!
Epiphany #3:  The CEO is replying to inquiry e-mails?  (and isn't afraid to have a sense of humor!)

Wow!

This dude's gotta have a whole lot of testicular fortitude to just "let it all hang out" on a public blog like this!  (Oh... and how I wish the CEO's of a bunch of other companies would do this Grin )

As I see it - he's "playing both ends" - and Comodo is in the middle!

This reminds me of when record companies would send huge piles of records to radio stations all over the place - free - just to get the airtime for their artists.

Originally they were afraid of radio - but they discovered (after the Supreme Court told them to get stuffed!) that radio airplay actually INCREASED revenue - by a LOT.  Ergo, the records sent to radio stations "for free".

You're working the "viral" angle, now for the next step:  A bigger footprint.

1.  Download sites:

You should do everything you can to get your stuff up on the big download sites like Tucows and such like.  And if you do this, you should emphasize that these products arn't just emasculated "crapware" programs, but the Real Deal.

2.  OEM Inclusion:

You folks need to be "wispering sweet nothings" into the ears of the big system's builders - Dell, HP, IBM, Toshiba, Sony, Acer, Gateway, and so on.

These guys need to continue to "increase value" - and in business doublespeak, that usually means "cut costs".  AND... you can't cut much lower than "free" can you?

3.  Media: (print or otherwise)

You folks should be REALLY PESTERING the computer mags, like PC Magazine, Computer Shopper, PC World, etc.

Don't forget the online sites where people post trusted reviews (Tom's Hardware comes to mind - and I know there are others.)

Also - don't forget the trade magazines - IT World and it's progeny.

4.  Computer User Groups:

This, by the way, is hot, REALLY hot - and nobody is really paying any attention to them right now.

If you send copies to PC/Linux user groups (you can get lists off the net), you get free demos.  Make it clear to them that the CD's you send can be duplicated for inclusion in their club library - disks are usually sold to members for a nominal fee - raises money for the club!

If possible - and if you have the assets on the ground - maybe you can actually show up to do some "guest demos"?  You end up smashing a bunch of nails with one hammer blow!

5.  Computer or Trade Shows:

Show up at a big Linux or PC show - pass out copies - and watch the fur fly!
(p.s. Let me know when you're doing this - I want to be a fly on the wall of McAfee, Norton, CA, Trend Micro, etc. when you do it...  Grin  Especially if you can set up a demo - running both YOUR and THEIR stuff, side-by-side - that would be awsome!  It would be even better if your stuff was beating the stuffings out of their software! )

6.  Computer Shops:  (a dying breed)
These people would LOVE to have something like this - they can include it on their own "custom" machines, and can give it away as a promo!

... and so on.

There is only one cavaet:  Your stuff has to have the pipes to be able to run with the Big Dogs.

With a blog like this - lurked by people like yourself, along with what appears to be others in the company - you obviously mean business.

Good Luck - and I hope to see you eating the lunch of Norton, McAfee, and such-like before long.

Disrespect?  Of course not!

You were "Yankin' my chain" as they say - and with it showing a refreshing amount of your sense of humor.  And I - working as a QA analyst (SQA Engineer) - appreciate the value of a sense of humor in this business.

We'd love to have you contribute to our community by telling us how we can further improve all our products that we provide for free.

Of course.

It is truly my pleasure to serve in whatever capacity I can.

Right now - I'm as busy as a cat with two tails, and a third one on order! - but once things calm down, (after April 17th!), I am eagerly looking forward to giving your products a good old-fashioned thrashing!  And I warn you ahead of time - I take NO PRISONERS when I test software...  Grin

One other promise I will make - I may not tell you what you want to hear, but I WILL tell you what (IMHO) you need to know.  I will tell you what I liked and what I didn't like, and I will do my best to give you the best - most objective - data I can.

Questions:

1.  Do you have a place where I can deposit my test reports?  (and assuming so, what format do you prefer?  TXT, M$-DOC, Word-Perfect, RTF, PDF, etc.?)

2.  Do you have a bug reporting tool?  If so, does it allow "external" people like myself to submit bug reports?

Jim,

We (speaking broadly) ask nothing less!  Constructive criticism is always helpful in an endeavor such as Comodo's.  Ranting and raving, now that may be a different matter... Grin

For submitting your findings, there are a couple options.  If you find an actual bug in the operations, you may submit it thru Support:  http://support.comodo.com/.  Even so, it is highly recommended that you first search thru the Help and FAQ sections first (here in the forums), and post relevant questions there.  Whether thru Support or the Forums, you can upload/attach files.  Here in the forums, that's thru Additional Options at the bottom of your post.  File types are specified there.

At present, CFP doesn't have a troubleshoot log feature (CAVS does), although it can generate a crash report in some circumstances, which can potentially be attached here as well.  CAVS' troubleshoot log generates text and perhaps rar files, both of which can be attached.  Only potential is size limit....  If so, dev team can provide instructions on emailing files.

Thanks for the open and frank nature.. We are not the kind of guys who will kid themselves, so hit us with the worst you can! That could only make us better Wink

We have sections here about reporting bugs on each product and wishlist for each product. our dev guys work from them, so using this forum is good enough and we want all our users to see where we are weak or strong, so that we know where we can improve.  We want our user's trust, so we have to be 100% open and frank about our products.

thank you for you time Smiley

As a professional SQA Engineer, ( Grin ), I would expect no less myself.

If you - or anyone out there in "radio land" (grin!), catches me doing what they believe is "ranting and raving" I expect them to call me on it.

We are all, (or should be), professional people here.  Dealing with issues and problems in a professional manner is what comes with the business.

I mentioned that because - in my experience - many companies SAY that they want open, frank, discussion of issues and problems, but what they REALLY want is for the QA people to kiss tush, tell them how wonderful they are, and look the other way when it comes to risking a ship date, or telling an influential developer his code has more bugs than a bait shop!

I like to put my cards all the way out on the table, face up, right away.  That way, if any feathers are gonna get ruffled, they get ruffled right away, and I know what and who I'm dealing with.

So far - in the few messages I've posted here and other places on this site - these blogs are much more laid back than most others I've seen.  Which, I might add, is why I'm still here, and why I look forward to building up a test instance of my machine - putting all this software on it - and beating the living stuffings out of it. (evil grin!!)

It's my understanding that Commodo will (gasp!) actually read the findings I post, others will try to reproduce my findings, and if relevant, they'll get on the list to be addressed in a future release.

I only wish Microsoft did this. (  Grin )

Jim

p.s.  Melih - You might want to think twice about using "Commodo" as the company's name...  I don't know what's true in Britian, but here in the "colonies" Smiley it sound too much like the word "Commode" - (the toilet) - and you don't want people to think your software is "in the toilet", right?

Well, the first thing ya gotta do (it shows your engineering side) is learn to spell/type!  J/K  Grin

Sure, "Commodo" is a lot like "Commode" but "Comodo" is a bit shorter, and a bit different, and with only one "m."  See?  Not quite so bad, is it?  Grin

Right now - I'm as busy as a cat with two tails, and a third one on order! - but once things calm down, (after April 17th!), I am eagerly looking forward to giving your products a good old-fashioned thrashing!  And I warn you ahead of time - I take NO PRISONERS when I test software...  Grin

Update - due to the fierce storms we had here in the Northeast, the IRS has "extended" the tax deadline for a few days - I think it FINALLY ends tomorrow (or was it today?  Huh )

I am going to be gone beaver for the next couple-of weeks - takin' the Missus and myself off on a well earned spot 'o rest!

So, you folks get a reprieve until the middle of May or so...  Then (as The Thing would say) "It's CLOBBERIN' Time!"  (laughing!)

Actually, I really am interested in giving your stuff the workout.  I'm especially interested in how your AV stuff holds up under pressure - and yes, I know just the web sites to visit that will REALLY tell the tale... and no - I won't put the URL's here on a "public" forum! (laughing even harder!)

Seriously now - I had played around with some stuff by McAfee - and it wasn't the best experience I've ever had... and I was looking at stuff by Trend Micro - but that stuff ain't cheap either...

Then I find you have (what you claim is World Class AV stuff) - freebie.  Interested?  Darn tootin' I'm interested - IF, and I mean IF, the stuff really has "the pipes" to really do the job.

Question for you Melih, (dang, gotta get that word in my spell-checker!), can you point me to, or provide, links to 3rd party reviews and comparisons between your AV product and other promenant products in the marketplace?  I'd really like to see 'em if thay're there.  What about your other products as well?

Thanks!
