What is the "Appearance" button on the toolbar for? Clicking on it does nothing.

Yes this button currently does nothing.
In future we will be providing few schemas which user can select to see a different background for cards. For example if you create an e-mail card, on right pane details appear on a predefined background image, which can be changed as per design by simply selecting a different schema from "Appearance" button.
